I can't seem to locate the timing pointer on my 302 anywhere. I understand Ford changed the location around a bit from year to year, and I've looked around the engine everywhere that I think it should be, but no luck. Would it be hidden behind some other part of the engine, or is it possible that somebody removed it for some reason?

i believe it should either be at the 10 o'clock or 2 o'clock position of the harmonic balancer. on my last engine i had to make one. i took a piece of #6 copper ground wire and made a loop at one end. i hammered it flat and attached it to the engine. i then bent it to where i wanted it and cut the end to a point. seemed to work ok.:D

Thanks Don. I finally found the pointer at about the 10 o'clock position underneath about 32 years of dirt. Timing was a little bit off, got it set this morning, it's a definite improvement.
