I have black 66 mustang seats in the maverick and they don't have much support especially around the headrest. So I'm in the market for some seats. Bryant has very comfortable Kirky seats but I commute daily in this car and so I am looking for something fairly comfortable and decent quality. I want one set of seats I'll keep for a long time. Any suggestions?

How much you willing to spend?

Cost goes along way in a set of seats IMO.

    Good seats are not cheap

    2 cost effective solutions are.........

Tiburon seats (light weight racing look I would give them about a 6 on comfy factor)

sn-95 mustang seats (heavy but very comfy for long drives)

As with any seat they can be recovered at an upholstery shop to match your interior.

I was thinking it would be realistic to spend $200 per seat. I see some on summitracing in that price range but I worry they are crap quality.

Do a search and take a look at the ones John Ford (Pinky) has in his car very nice ,and very reasonably priced.

Food for thought, since you are putting a roll bar in to be legal at the track you are going to need a 5 point harness at least on driversside and it is best to have the belts come through the seats rather than around or over the seat you will also have to support the seat back to the roll bar.

I may be all wet but that is my understanding of NHRA rulings, just dont want you to find out the hard way

would I be able to get a seat like this and take it to an upholstery shop and have them put a little cushioning in there and obviously cover it?

I dont think it would be too big of a problem to cover that seat but I think if you do some more research you can find seats that are all ready covered and will cost less than that one when you get it covered.

there are seats like this on summit for $150 but again, the quality is what I'm worried about. but it's not a bad looking seat. I'll keep looking though for sure.

I've had the plastic seats back when I owned my Mustang. They held up well, but I didn't like the comfort level of them. Basically you can only sit one way in them. It's not like a regular seat where you can reposition yourself to a different spot. I've got the Kirkeys in mine now and they are neat, but they are not cheap.

I'll keep looking but no luck yet. I think I remember seeing the thread too a long time ago.

which kirkey seats do you have? I sat in Bryant's and they are comfy. Just don't know how comfortable for longer distances.

The main selling points on mine were:
    1) provisions for shoulder restraints (if I decide to start racing again.
    2) the fact that they flipped up to make access to the back easier.
    3) cost
    4) looks. (Obviously would not know how comfy until I got them.)

I would say the quality is good.
I am very pleased with the seat.

yes. But HOMERMAV might have more input. I think he used these seats in his car as well. I changed my tunnel up a bit when I put the new floor in. My tunnel might be just a little wider than a stock 70'.
And it was "close" but it the seats do fit in there flat with no shims or spacers of any kind, but remember my new floor is flat as well.
