I'm considering raising the rear of my maverick to put bigger tires underneath it. I was thinking adjustable spring shackles? What do you think? What should I do?

NO NO NO ! Shackles have a bad rep for ruining springs! And you don't get much lift from them anyway. Better bet would be rearched springs or do a search through the tech section and read about using Econline springs....

I never seen a car gain height with shackles...I only seen flat springs.

It depends how much longer of shackles you are talking about obviously don't do like 6 inches longer, but an inch or inch and a half is alright, if you have good leafsprings that aren't flattened out already. An be sure and use thick metal. And don't leave extra sticking out the bottom, then it just looks stupid.

$75 per spring....or $150 for the pair of E150 springs. For that kind of money, you can buy brand NEW, correct leaf springs for a Maverick.

For what it is worth, in my opinion, 4-door Mavericks shouldn't be "jacked up" in the rear. Not a good look on the 4-door.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
I dont know about the 4 doors. But on 2 doors guys can fit 275mm tires on the stock rear suspension. Providing its not worn out.

Keep in mind....it is illegal to "jack" the rear of the car up. You may need to check with your local police or BMV and see what the legal bumper height is for your car.

If you have to jack up the rear of the car in order to get tires to fit, then you either have the wrong size tires or the wrong size wheels. Tires should fit a car without having to jack it up.

That depends on where you live. Most states don't give a rats pittuey if you jack it up or lower it. Got to agree though, unless the rear is sagging, there should be no need to jack it up to put on a larger tire. If you are trying to put truck wheels [18" or larger] on a Maverick, you need to find something else unless you want to spend mega bucks to rework the wheel wells and subframes....

I was looking at the inspecting the wiring for the fuel gauge at the tank today and the springs are nearly flat...so yes the rear is kind of sagging...

I was thinking of putting 15x8 rim with a maybe 255/60/15 tire on the rear nothing that largerI'm running 14" originals with dogdish hubcaps on themright now...they look anemic compared to the rest of the car.

I didn't realize until I got the car on Sept 10th how sloppy the rearend was

    Hey Craig,

Can you direct me to the place that I can get new leaf springs for my maverick?
