    Hello all,
I'm new here. I just bought a 1962 Mercury Comet with a 170 I6. It needs TLC, but eventually should be an OK 3rd car for us.
I noticed that the front springs are not straight. While working on the brakes, I noticed that they are compressed in the front, but bowed out in the back. I've worked on Falcons in the past, and don't remember this, and it just plain looks funny. The suspension is worn, but the car sits fine. Is this normal, or are my springs shot?

    Thank you,

    bowed??

Are you talking about with a load on them or when the tires are off the ground and just hanging? There should be just a very slight bow from top to bottom with the bow to the outside of the car. Not really frt to back??

    bowed

Yes, they are bowed front to back, with a normal load. Seemed strange to me.

Possibly your upper control arm bushings are worn, allowing the arm to tilt. Does the arm sit parallel to the ground? If not the bushings are bad.:)

    Torched?

I don't think so. The car seems to sit correctly. I'll check the busings....!

    ay have been torched....

Ok, upon further review, the springs may have been torched. The coils touch in the front, and rub the shocks. The plates they sit on, on top of the spindle are tilted slightly , but not excessive, and it seems to match the natural angle of the bottom part of the spring. Also, there does not appear to be enough slop in anything to knock the spring out of plumb like this. I see springs on a couple of websites....I'll get a set ordered.
