The center support in the case breaks. There is a repair kit for it but it is just a long bolt, drill guide and tap. If the case breakes then a bolt will hold it together? I would rather run a case that doesn't break but as I said the gear train of the FMX is very strong - just has a bit more parasitic drag. It is a good transmission in most applications.

At stock power levels, the case should be just fine, correct? In terms of exhaust, I'm not worried about fabricating my own, I assume the manifolds on there will fit, just not bolt to the stock maverick v8 exhaust?

i dont think your drivers side will work...passenger side might.

But try em out...if they don't fit just put on some headers.:Handshake

Heres how the stock ones look like.

Reviving an old thread, and thanks again for everyone's input. I'm back into focus on the maverick...well comet now. So now let's review what all needs to be done if I were to put this LTD engine and FMX tranny into a 1976 Comet. It has 5 bolt hubs and front discs. I don't know much about the car as of now.

    Cheers!

What drive shaft might be required for an FMX (as pictured) transmission, and the stock differential for this 1976 Comet?

Everything should still apply, 72 and 76 are still very identical. As for the drive shaft, look up the length for a C4 then look up the length for the FMX. If their the same length you might be able to use the stock driveshaft. If not just measure it and have one built.
