I'm planning on putting a lot of money into my maverick and was wondering what would be the best way to make sure no one breaks into my car? I need to lock down the hood as well and make sure no one can open my car with a screwdriver and coat hanger...

What? Come on, my dad already has both of his cars in there, so mine won't fit. Will I just have t install a baic electronic alarm? Is there anyway that I may be able to fabricate something to make the trunk or door locks stronger?

dude if they want your car they will take it. they towed my friends car! if you make the door locks "stronger" they will just brake the window.

on all my past projects i added an electric fuel pump and did away with the mechanical.run the power to the pump thruogh a hidden kill switch inside the car. to drive the car away you would have to find the switch. worked to save my truck 2 times. that being said, if they want it bad enough NOTHING will stop them. good luck. if you want send a p.m. and i can give you some ideas where to hide the switch.

I have a painless wiring harness and it has a way to disable the battery if I wanted to make it harder to steal...any ever hear of something like this?

    Bright lights

Flood the car with bright lights and put a manequin in the drivers seat holding a gun in its hand. Then get one of those barking dog proximity alarms. That ought to keep them away. If that doesn't work then pound them:smash: :slap: .

Seriously a little prevention goes a long way and a decent alarm with a proximity (radar) sensor with a warnaway feature will help. Those little LED lights that blink help a lot too. It will scare away the amateurs for sure.

The bad thing about security systems is that is that you never know if they are working. If your car remains unmolested then it must be working, right?
    Good Luck.:)

Painless Wiring and EZ Wiring have the Coil on a separate fuse. If you remove the fuse you can't get power to the coil. That is the only "security" feature I have heard of in the harness (I just installed an EZ). You could run your coil wire through a hidden switch (if you have a mechanical fuel pump). But I agree...if they want it bad enough they will take it.

I have a battery master disconnect switch that has a removable key, I put it inside my console so that even if someone broke in and got past my ignition switch without some work (crawling under car and finding switch, then bypassing) they can't start it. Also haven't done to my Mav yet but on my Ranger mini-PU I put a lockable hood latch from a full-size Ford truck, it works to keep folks from doing bad things under the hood. Like my wife pouring cold water in a overheated engine! or unsavory types from making off with parts I'd rather keep.
