    Hi everybody,

I found a Comet for sale in my neighbourhood the other day. Looks pretty good on the outside, but I haven't asked about it yet. I was wondering what kind of price should I be expecting to pay for a Comet? It's a 2D, not a GT, presumably Canadian made (eh).

Unfortunately I can't say much on its all-around condition so I'm wondering if someone could provide a ballpark price assuming it's in quite good condition without too many miles on it, so I can tell if I'm being asked for too much if it isn't in equivalent status.

    Cheers,
    Gabe

Afew hundred to a few thousand depending on condition. Post pics for the forum to review and give a better guestimate.

Thanks for the quick reply. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't going to cost too much on average. I saw mixed prices on Mavericks online going from, like you said, a few hundred to a few thousand, but then I saw one up in Calgary for $10,000 with 30,000 miles on it that wasn't really in great condition to start.

I'll check back here when I have more information on the car.

It used to be that a couple of hundred got you a driver/project car and maybe another thousand got you something that needed very little work. So for well under 2 grand you were driving a really nice Maverick/Comet and you may still find that out there if you keep looking.

Now- - - -the prices just seem to be getting higher every year for the same things. It appears that our cars are finally coming into their own in the market that is drenched with Mustangs and Camaros - I would simply suggest that the longer you wait, the more you might pay.

    :Welcome:

Mileage on these cars, while fun to talk about, is not a very big factor in whether it is a good deal or not. What does matter is condition of the metal parts, interior, and what needs to be fixed to get it safe and dependable to drive.

When you look at it - ask yourself
1st - how rusty is the structure (frame, floor, all the hidden areas)
2nd - what damage, condition is the metal body in
3rd - mechanical condition - does everything work as it should
4th - interior complete and what needs fixing.

Post some pictures - we love pictures!

I didn't snap any pictures, but the outside is in fairly perfect condition for a used car. Unforunately, the owner paid 10,000 for it and wants to get close to that. On top of that, the neighbourhood it's in is rather wealthy so he's already gotten offers for about 5000. So that essentially forces me to offer upwards of 6000, and that's just not practical for me right now.

Guess I'll have to look elsewhere? Or am I expecting too low?

If you're willing to go upwards toward $5,000.00 then you are in a range where there are a lot of them out there waiting for you.

A Comet that sells for $10,000.00 would really have to be something extremely special :)

If it's the blue one in London, don't waste your money. No Comets were made in Canada :)

Funny thing was, I found a Comet GT in beautiful condition (at least externally) for sale on some classifieds for about the same price that this guy was asking for his standard Comet. If I could get the money together, $8000 or so for a GT doesn't seem too bad.
