Very important...without it you will have oil leaking at the gaskets and eventually ruin the engine.

If the car you are talking about is the 73 Maverick and it was made in the USA it should be fitted with a PCV system which is the crankcase ventilation. If it has been removed then it should be put back on. The PCV system helps the rings to seal and minimizes wear by removing fuel and water vapor from the crankcase. Even professional drag racers use crankcase evacuation systems to help keep their engines sealing.

Never seen a gasoline engine without crankcase ventilation. The rings don't make a perfect seal with the cylinders so some gases (blowby) enter the crankcase. Its gonna come out somewhere.

The pcv is there to recycle crankase vapors. And to keep internal pressure from blowing out seals and gaskets. Not to lube the rings.
    Brillance everywhere. :rofl2:

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
When i was down in mexican i took some engines apart that didnt have pvc systems and they had excessive sludge buildup. All those vapors not having a place to escape wrecked havok on them. Im not going to run a PVC system on my engine but instead a breater can system. But Unless your building a high HP engine stick with the PVC system.

Do you have valve covers with a hole on each one??? gotta have that just to get started. Then you will need a PCV valve, a proper length of rubber/neoprene hose to reach the valve cover you install the valve on. A grommet to fit it into and attach it to the cover and a open breather for the other cover and a grommet to mount it as well.(this will go on the cover you pour oil into the engine through) Connect the hose to the fitting on your carb that you asked about initially, connect the other end to the mounted PCV valve and bobs your uncle!!! Good luck!
