I'm really excited about this 75 comet i bought, but i'm gonna need alot of help and advice.
Here are some pictures of the car:

The only problem with it right now is that the carb isn't working. I'm planning on just getting a new one.

-One thing i'm debating about it weather to get a 302 to put in instead of the in-line 6 that it has right now. If i keep the I6 i'll probally take it out and rebuild it anyways just to have it running alot smoother. Any ideas on which one would be a better idea for this car?

-The body has some rust but not a big deal, i'm going to sand it down and get a new pain job anyways, still deciding on what to do for paint on it.

-I really want to get a hood like the maverick grabber hood. Does anybody know if the hoods on the maverick and comet are interchangable? i know they are basicly twins to each other.

-Interior is going to need alot of work, i'm planning on swapping out the front bench seat for bucket seats. not sure where to look for those.

Thats about it for now, i'm sure i'll be on here alot figuring stuff out, this is my first time restoring a classic car and i'm looking forward to it. I'm planning on spending alot of time looking around at junkyards for the stuff i need too.

Welcome to the board. The 302 v8 is the most common swap. Use the search feature on here. There's been lots of threads. No the Comet hood will not fit. "UNLESS" you also change the grill, bumper, rock guard. And probably a few things I've missed. :Welcome:

The best way is the 302. Is it a stick or a auto.trans .You will have to swap that to.I would not waste my money rebuilding the 6 banger.Put it in the car.Like tires and wheels or the seats.302s are easy to find and it might be a good idea to rebuild one before you put it in the car.So good luck and so long.

Thanks alot for all the help so far and the welcomes.

and HARRYJOHNSON it is a auto trans. and AZ is a far way off from MN. i'll look around here for a good one first. thanks though.

I'll probally swap it for the 302 then. sounds like the best way to go.

Get the I6 engine running, and see if you need a new one or not. The 6 is much better on gas, and if that is a concern, see what you have before you tear into it. If it isn't a concern, then the V8 is the way to go.

Right, Gas cost is always a concern. thats a good point. i guess i'll see what i can do with the I6 for now. If it turns out it's gonna cost alot to fix it and everything then i might just opt for a v8. but for now i'll try out the I6

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
maverick front end on a comet is known as a Comick, its been done numerous times. Also you can swap the small bumpers on, its really easy to do. And it improves the aesthetics of the car. Those inline 6s are pretty torquy and you can pep them up also.

All of the Comet hoods will interchange. At least from that body style. You could also find a GT type scoop and attach it to your hood. Original GT hoods are pretty hard to find.:)
