I only knew what length push rod I needed for my 393 Cleveland after all of the machine work (block was decked, heads were resurfaced, head gasket chosen, new valves installed, roller rockers purchased etc.) and assembly was complete. I believe my engine builder used some sort of fixture to determine the length needed and then purchased the proper length push rods.

Don't have a real hard answer for you - just what I experienced with mine. :)

seems to me a stock push rod is all that needed here, but i want to be sure dont want to get stuck with something i cant use.

In all my years of building stock cars all I have been familier with were small block Chevy engines and stock push rods were the norm. Not until I got involved with my Maverick did I see so many different length oversized Ford push rods. I'm sure someone who knows for sure will chime in soon. :)

your gambling if you buy the push rods before you put the motor togther. there are several things that influnce push rod length. like if the block has been surfaced and or the heads have been surfaced. if the valves are stock or aftermarket. the cam it self. i would defintly just wait till you get the motor togther and then use an adjustable push rod to figure out the right length.

The 74-77 blocks have a higher deck height to lower the compression ratio. Add E7 heads to that and your compression will be really low.

I did the same thing with one of my motors (1973 block), and the stock push rods were too short. You need a push rod length checker, once you get it assembled.

As bryant mentioned there are too may variables involved. There is no one size fits all unless its a bone stock motor with no changes. If your geometry is not right you will wipe out the valve guides quickly so make sure you measure first.
