I originally installed my 4V Cleveland with those 8 piece big tube Tubular Automotive Headers also. My steering also hit big time. I think it would steer all the way in one direction but not the other, if I recall. Also the 2 rear cylinder tubes, that come down and cross under the pan and into the opposite collectors, hit dead into the side of the block. Really poorly made headers for what I paid for them. I never really finished the swap. Now with using the MMII style front suspension, I am going to re-vamp a set of older standard Mustang headers to fit. Looks like I'll have to do a road trip to Altoona some day. If you ever get up in the Northeast part of the state give me a hollar.
Thats the problem I had, would only steer one way. I called them and they told me to heat up the centerlink and bend it. I never did it and took the comet apart. If they dont fit with mounts this time,I think I will use a engineplate. Jesse
I called him too. The owner of Tubular told me that the headers were originally designed for a Cleveland into a 64 Ford Falcon. Not the same size engine bay. Well, I can't say for sure if that explains the linkage hitting in a Maverick but it sure didn't explain why my 2 rear tubes were hitting the block. Those rear tubes had nothing to do with what chassis you installed it into. It did seem like he had heard the "block hitting complaint" before because he simply said that he had a box of mandrel bends coming my way and I should be able to find some pieces to fix my problem. I never completed the swap either. Now I finally will but in a much different configuation.
Yes It's factory v8 linkage fits fine, don't under stand the header problems you guys have but you can't use power steering with these maybe that's it. Uses stock manual steering components and it will interfere when the front end is jacked up and suspension drops but no real issues the one left rear tube is very very slightly dimpled for the pitman arm both rear cross over tubes fit fine. Hear is a older picture before I recoated the headers.
Not sure what was going on either, but I had manual steering. Have another question for you, what tubes cross under your pan? Mine has #3 and #7 cross, but I have heard some say it is #4 and #8. Jesse
Have you ever ran your car in the 1/4? I am using my engine from my 71 torino,it went 12.40 at 109 in that. Using more gear this time and a toploader. Jesse
I run my car with a 456 rear gear and a 278 wide ratio toploader on a 255/60/15 Mickey Thompson drag radial it runs 11.26 at Virginia Motorsports Parks also know as Dinwitte in VA. I use a two step to launch the car at 5000 rpm its a hella of ride. But mostly its my street car that I have a 391 rear setup for and just switch them out at race time.
What are the specs on a Boss 351 Cleveland? I thinking that my 1972 393 CJ Cleveland is now built to at least Boss specs if not beyond them.
