Hello, I have 72 Mav with a 302,Auto. When I turn the steering wheel I have about 1/4 to 1/2 play before the center link moves, The play is were the pitman arm is connected to center link. I have called around but nobody I can find sell center link for PS car. Has anybody done a rebuild with the kits they sell at most auto parts store?

    Thanks
    Tony

Two things I would look at are the rag joint and the ps assist stud.

There is supposed to be slight play in the power steering - the pitman arm has to move the valve before the fluid can move the centerlink. 1/4" tp 1/2" is fine.

Thanks for the info, I will go ahead with my front end rebuild. I will be using the kit from PST. I also added a front 7/8 '' sway bar and the spring perches. Some don't like the kit from PST and some do. I will let you know how it handles on the road. I live in Ventura CA. so I will be able to try it out on PCH 1. I also hope to take the MAV to open track day up at Willow Spring. I will kept a eye on the strut rods.

    New PST sway Bar 7/8

Hello, took my Mav to the base auto shop to use the 4 post lift to install my New PST sway bar. After 3 hour I could not get it to fit. I would install the end links finger tight and when I went to install the new sway bar frame mount the bolt holes would not line up. If you look at the frame mount you will see 3 holes. The middle hole is bigger than the 2 end hole one on each side of the bigger hole. The new bar frame mount would only line up with the rear end hole of the mount with the first hole in the frame looking towards the rear of the the engine. So I took it all apart and this time I install the frame mounts first only finger tight. The bar link ends mount hole was then past the LCA end link mount by about 1 ''. So I pulled the new bar out first and re-install the old bar. Yea I can still install a sway bar and it fit, so I then pulled the old bar back out laid them both on the ground side by side . The new bar is way bigger but the link ends were longer. by the time I called PST they gone for the day. After working on cars and aircraft for thirty plus years you are going to have bad days. I hope the PST front end kit fit the first time. I just have to laugh. :rofl2:
