I just got this note from CV Vacuum Platers. They are the company that does the rechroming of plastic. They did a tremendous job on my AC center vent. Here is the note:

    To all our Valued Customers
    Past and Present

    RE: Closure of Business

After more than 15 years in business, we regret to advise that CV Custom Finishes Inc. (formerly CV Vacuum Platers Inc.) will be closing. Effective immediately we will no longer be accepting any VM plating work. However, we will be continuing to do Power Coating until December 31st, 2010.
We have had the privilege of being part of thousands of restoration projects and would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers for the support you have given us.
We had hoped to weather this tough economic climate but it has unfortunately finally taken its toll on us and we had no choice but to come to this conclusion. It has been a pleasure being part of your lives and businesses and will miss the camaraderie with those of you we have come to know personally over the years.
From all of us here at CV Custom Finishes we wish you well and much success and happiness in the future.

    Sincerely,

    Chuck & Jean Vanderbyl

Consider Chuck a personal friend and the best in the business now how do you replace something like that. Man this country is in a freaking mess. I have done business with them for over 15 years.........

    Thats a shame.

Does it have something to do with the plating business in general with all the EPA restrictions and the costs associated? I heard they are hitting hard on chromers, platers and the like.

It's a Canadian company. It's probably the poor American economy that has the most to do with it, I'm sure a good chunk of their business came from the USA.
