I just inherited a 302 from a 76 California special comet, I was wondering if this engine was different in anyway. It came outta my dads old cs comet and sadly to say was destroyed in an accident. Did it come with anything different or is it basically the same engine?

Mavericks and Comets never got anything special outside of appearance packages.
The low output power, plain jane suspension and basic power train is all they got from the factory. Some dealers added special packages but rarely did it involve the power train.

I saw one here in Houston a few months ago and posted pictures. I thought it was something someone here did just for fun. Let me see if I can find those pictures to post back up here.

    And some more...

Of course, obligatory photos of the strip joint sign "Heartbreakers" with the church sign behind it stating that they "heal the broken hearted!" :rofl2:

That's just something, someone did to their car, not anything factory.
There never was one from the factory.

Yes, not a factory option, but at least one dealer must have done them for me to see one and this other guy to have had one.

Any idea if it was a single dealer promo item or maybe several dealers?

Or do you think someone just got the idea and cloned it off a mustang?

Those are Mustang emblems, that would have been scarce in the 70's. Who ever had that car did it themselves. If a Calfornia Special ever existed, I'm sure we would have know about it by now, it's been 33+ years since the last Maverick and Comets were produced in North America.....

Yeah, but this is two we have now heard of. Wondering if there was a dealer somewhere who added this theme to his Comets...

Looks nothing like this California Special. So I see what you mean, someone likely borrowed the badges and made the rest of the car original to match.

Unless original poster says his car looked like the one I posted pics of, then we have antoher issue altogether...
