I'm running a comp cams 292 in my 302. its a pretty radical cam. i love the performance i have gotten out of it but I am considering advancing this cam. has anyone run this cam advanced?
ADvancing the cam will give you a bit of low end at the cost of your high end power. It is usually better to go with a smaller cam (the right part for the job) than to advance a cam that is too large. If you feel the need to advance it I would ask CompCams how far you can go without hurting yourself in the application. A lot of things will come into play when do this - compression, ignition advance, critical rpm and even cam, intake and exhaust. Make the call and see what their tech department says.
Most cams have a certain amount of advance ground into them. Why did you want to run the cam advanced?
"Mr. Valve, I would like to introduce you to my good friend Mr. Piston." double check clearance before you try to turn it over.
low end power gains. i am looking to see if anyone has ran this cam advanced to see if had an advantage. i dont think itll be owrth the work to do it. i was just curious
The low end gains may be pretty small you would probly see more going to a dual plane type intake JMHO
comp cams already grinds a 4* degree advance into all their otf cams except the 305 advertised duration cams. or a custom grind. these you have to degree in. if you try and advance any cam you must degree it . and as stated by cyclone you had better double check the piston to valve clearance. if for a street car i wouldnt bother. if for drag car then maybe.(on advanceing it ) it is also best to degree any cam.the manufactor makes mistakes too, but rarely.:Handshake
Comp recommends degreeing all their cams except for the smaller ones no bigger than the 268H, if you didn't degree it to start with, you had better do so before advancing it.
