I believe there are a lot more of them. So they are easier to find parts for. I like both.:)

I think you're right but it could just be that there are more Mavericks by shear numbers. My second car was a Comet and had I not flipped it, I probably would still be driving it. 72 V8 auto 2dr with air and the LDO pkg. Man I miss that car.

Comets were made as far back as 1960. I think the 71-77 comets get called mavericks in part to distinguish which body style of a comet they are talking about. Im not saying comets are as popular, just wanted to note that they are often labeled as a maverick, in part making the maverick seem more popular. Comets are more popular with people thinking of the shoe box generation.

I didn't say they were easy to find parts for. I said they were easier than Comets to find parts for. Such as hoods, grills etc.:)

My third car was a 64 comet 2dr in the late 60's and I still like them. There were a lot more mavericks built than comets in the 70's so there are more of that generation mavericks than comets around. I have always liked the clean simple lines of the maverick since they first came out in 69 but it took until this past january for me to buy one. Now I have 2. 1 daily driver and 1 parts car. Makes parts much easier to find. :yup: :drive:

Well its kind of like the mustang and cougar. I personally think the first gen cougar is much cooler looking than the mustang. The maverick however i like over the comet because of the comets pointy front end. I think the mav looks cleaner.

But it goes that way you say pinto and everyone knows what your talking about but say bobcat and they look at you funny

Same with escort and lynx, then later topaz.

The only line i can think of thats reversed is the Crown vic and Grand Marquis.

Mavericks may be more popular that the 71 up Comets but will never be as popular as the early Comets. The 64-65 Comet thread on the HAMB is one of the most active posts there.

Over the production run it was roughly 4 Mavs made for every Comet.

Back when these cars were new, the Comet was more money. I looked at both cars in 1974. Although I liked that hood scoop and some of the other styling features, the Maverick Grabber was cheaper and I was counting my money even then. Today, many people think my car is a Comet GT until they see the name plate. I remember seeing the Montego GT and Cougar XR7 on the lots now there is no more Mercury.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
Dont discriminate against big bumper cars. Theyre still the same car :D Plus bumper swaps are a piece of cake.
