Do those points eliminators(petronix, mallory, crane, etc) use the stock traditional mechanical advance? Or do they have an electronic version? If its the latter, i will finally concede and say theyre better than the duraspark setup :D

yes they use the mechanical advance. They just replace the points better than duraspark well im not sure but 100X better than points. I would have to see some technical comparsion between the two. Cause as we all know that stupid little control box is the weak link in the system were as the petronix doesnt really have a weak link.

Now this is assuming the motor is stock or slightly modified. If your drag race you should be running a MSD system or somthing similar anyway.

The Pertronics unit is more stable than points - that is all. it does the same job in a different way. The Pertronics unit just interupts the flow of current throughthe coil. The "weak link" in the DS systems is an amplifier. It increases the voltage rise and amperage to the plugs. The DS II is a much better system for high RPM and heavy load vehicles. It also uses a center pivot point for the vacuum advance plate which keeps dwell constant as the vacuum advances the plate. It is much better than the Pertronics unit but in a daily driver it would make little difference which you used.
