Ok, I been asked this question many times through the years. There is a Maverick Stallion, Sprint, LDO. I think Ford took the "Grabber" colors and used them on the Mustang and mabe other cars but Grabber was Maverick for sure. When people asked me about it I tell them the car "Grabs" attention. It would be interesting to know how Ford came up with that name and what was the meaning. Mabe someone knows. What do you think?

Just another thought. In 1969 an '70 there was a "Grabber" Mustang. They were usually base sport roofs with Boss 302 like stripes. Same stripes no "Boss 302" indication. They did not say Grabber on the car anywhere but that's what they were. This was the same time Ford introduced the Maverick. So Were did "Grabber" come from? Did Ford take the name from the Mustang and put it on the Maverick or from the Maverick to the Mustang? There were no Mustang Grabbers after 1970. A Grabber Mustang was a sport roof, stripes, 302, trim rings and hubcaps, sport mirrors. Other Mustang options were available.

I think i found the answer.....

    http://1970mgr.org/_Introduction.htm

In February of 1970, Ford introduced a special model called the Mustang Grabber, along with the new Maverick Grabbers , to promote the lineup of "Grabber" colors Ford had that year. According to the factory press release in February of 1970, the Mustang Grabber was available with Grabber Green, Grabber Blue, Grabber Orange, Vermillion (also known as Calypso Coral), and Bright Yellow. All Mustang Grabbers were Mustang Sportsroofs, or fastbacks, with an option on the invoice called "Grabber Special Value Package." Most cars had either black or white interiors, however other interior colors were available. In addition, the Grabbers were equipped as follows:
    - Black "C" body tape stripe similar in appearance to the 1969 Boss 302 but without any lettering in the fender area
    - 302 2V "Windsor" engine
    - Dual sport mirrors color matched to the body color
    - Black painted rear taillight panel similar to the Boss 302 but the taillight bezels remained chrome.
    - 14 inch standard steel wheels with "Dog Dish" style trim rings and center caps
    - Transmission was either 3 speed standard or C-4 automatic

Many Grabbers have been lost to history due to repaints when the stripe kits were not available as they are now to restore the car to it's original appearance. There may be many Grabbers out there that simply look like a plain Mustang fastback. Only the factory invoice can verify a Mustang Grabber. Well known Mustang expert, Kevin Marti, has documented in his book, "Mustang by the Numbers", that there were 5120 Mustang Grabbers sold in 1970.
Marti Auto Works can provide a Factory Invoice for 1970 Mustangs. Considering the years that have passed and the many ends that these and other Mustangs have unfortunately experienced, there is no way of knowing how many of these great looking examples of the Mustang's Golden age are still around.

The Mustang Grabber Registry is dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of the 1970 Mustang Grabbers and to maintain a registry to provide a source of information about the Mustang Grabbers and a way to keep track of how many still exist. It has registered members from the United States as well as other countries. Many registered owners are not members of any club. There is no cost to register and all member information is strictly confidential. All Mustang Grabbers are welcome regardless of their condition, including wrecked, destroyed, or parted out vehicles.

Since the Maverick Grabber was an appearance option only it was designed to look different - to "grab" the eye of on-lookers.
If it had been a performance option it might have grabbed more attention. :yup:

What about the early Maverick Grabbers (1970). There was no Grabber Id on the car. I wonder if it said Maverick Grabber on the invoice. This must have been the time Ford decided to name plate the car a Maverick Grabber. I think Ford must have called the early cars Grabbers because the had to charge for the stripe package so they had to call it something.

Yes, the 70 Mav Grabber didn't say "Grabber" anywhere on it - neither did the 70 Mustang Grabber. The invoice did list the Grabber package in 1970.
