i have a 73 2 door mav with a I6 200 auto trans. i was thinking about buying a 74 4 door mav with a 302 auto trans and swapping motors and trans. now i have done some research but i still have a couple of questions.
1)will the 302 engine mounts, mount to the same spot as the I6?
2)will the drive shaft from the 302 mav fit in
    3) I saw that you have to bend the linkage around the exhaust manifold, can i just put a floor shift in? and does the floor shift have to be a certain type?
4)I have a 8" rear with posy traction, will that work?

if someone could help thank you thank you.

    Yes, to all those.
If you have both cars, it's easy.

As far as your floor shifter being a certain type, if you're buying Hurst or B&M, just make sure that the box says that it will work with a c-4 transmission. That will insure that the correct linkage brackets are in the box of the shifter that you are buying, and that, that specific shifter is for a 3 speed automatic. Good luck with the swap, and keep us informed.:thumbs2::Handshake

That shifter will work, but you will need the proper lever for the transmission. It points opposite the direction of the column shifter bracket, either up or down, can't remember which right now.

This is done to insure that the shift pattern is correct, if you use the wrong lever the pattern will be backwards. There are some transmissions that have a dual bracket that work with either column shift or floor shift, it has one lever pointing up and one pointing down. There is also an aftermarket lever that mounts in any position that will also work for you, B&M and Hurst both sell one.

To use the Mustang floor shifter you can rotate the shift lever 180 degrees. you will need to drop the valve body. Then there is anut on the inside of the shift lever that needs to be removed. you can slide the shift lever out the side of the transmission and rotate it 180 and then reinstall everything. Would be easier to use and aftermarket cable shifter but probably cheaper to use the mustang shifter.

    Ryan,
Although you can rarely turn the manual lever on the C4 180 and make it work it usually doesn't. there is about 15 - 20 degrees difference in the two levers and it will bind at one end of its stroke. The proper lever can be purchased, used, at www.mmerlinn.com.

Swapping from I6 to V8 is more challenging if you don't have the complete donor car.
However, you have the complete V8 car, so it is just a matter of swapping the parts.
Shouldn't need any modding of parts, just swapping.
    Good luck and welcome!

driveshaft is too long...the 2 dr. will work
if you swap motor/transmission...you shouldn't have to bend anything for the shifter to work
...what..."8" rear with posy traction"...do youi have?

    ...:drive:...

If the four door is a column shift and the 2 door is a column shift and you want to keep the column shift you will have to swap over the linkage from the V8 car to the Six car and it will be fine. If you want to install a floor shifter on a car that was originally a column shift then you will need a new manual lever or a cable shifter made for the swap.

I did just what I was describing back 15 years ago or so. Had a 73 C4 and a floor shifter out of a Granada. I think we did have to tweak the shift rod a little, thought it was because of the location the shifter was mounted. Also a couple years ago when I put in my AOD I had to do the same thing to the AOD trans. the Mustang it came out of was cable operated floor shifter, I flipped the lever and still used my Granada floor shifter. Again I had to tweak the rod a little because of the wider trans.
