I've read that it takes some work to get one in, and others stating that its a bolt up affair with longer bolts. So what does it really take to get the 1969 mustang gas tank in a 71 maverick?

There is a write up on the site here about using an early Stang tank in a Maverick.
    I don't think it was a 69 tank though... ???
The how-to write up I believe uses a 65 tank, not sure.
Do a search in tech articles.

A lot more work than it takes to get a 75/77 tank to fit unless you like to fabricate and weld.

Or you can just get a later larger maverick tank at napa. Or at rockauto for $99. If your worried about running dual exhaust its still possible with the larger tank.

    Pretty interesting read.
It's been a long time since I followed that one.
Looks like 65-70 definately fits, and 71-73 probably fits.
Some folks there are strapping in, while some are bolting them through the floor like Mustangs and 69 Maverick... I like the idea of bolting them into the floor much better.

Stock tank location sux really bad.
I have seen folks bend over backwards and cobble together a pipe to squeeze by the tank, and it ain't pretty. Nor does it look very safe running the exhaust 1/8" away from the tank. Just my .02...

Reason I'm paused on the 75+ tank is that I read somewhere the lower valance will have clearance issues? Exhaust is not a problem since I'm dumping in front of the rear tires.

You can bend the valance to clear, but IMO it looks like crap when it's done that way.

There is no issue what so ever. Im running a 76 tank with a 71 rear valance. I can take a pic tomorrow if you want.

this is why I'm paused, comments like maverick75 and Miles. Who's right? Why didn't maverick75 need to bend his valence? Sure post pics, anything that can help.

Dave, all you have to do is route the exhaust pipe around the leaf spring. Like the first gen camaro`s have. Its away from the gas tank and you can run 3" pipe.
