what kind of hp did you make with your build how much $$$$ what parts ? thank's just searching for a good build for when i build a motor for the maverick
If you are just talking budget street power, I would spend the majority of my money on the best heads I could afford. Then just go with good off the shelf basic parts. 6901 Hookers, or generic brand equivalent Small off the shelf hydraulic cam (exact parts depends on heads, gears, and tranny) Weiand Stealth intake Free flowing mufflers ARP rod bolts Carter 'strip' fuel pump 570-670 Holley Avenger carb Good quality machine work and quality rebuild parts (nothing special, just quality) Electronic ignition Roller timing chain Std volume oil pump Hardend pump drive no more than .030" overbore Compression depends on head material, iron or aluminum. No less than 9:1 compression in either case. Depending on what heads you get, this combo should make anywhere from 250 hp and up IMO.
I will have about 2000.00 in my 1970 351 Windsor fresh heads screw in studs motor sports roller rockers 10.1 heyperteck pistons balanced motor air gap intake and 750 double pump holley should get 350 hp easy everything new
Budget build ? Reman roller 5.0 short block w/40 over silvolite flattop pistons($350 with a core) B303 cam, home ported E7 heads with new valve springs, used 1.7 Cobra roller rockers, Second hand Performer RPM intake, second hand 650 Holley DP, new ARP rod bolts installed with the engine assembled (on a stand) HP was about 300. Total cost was around $1000
Mine is an odd-ball, and WAY cheap compared to most. .040 over 5.0 block, zero miles, fresh rebuild-$200 (guy put it in a truck, wired it to 302 firing order, and gave up on working on it. Sold to me for CHEAP! 2 cylinders were still silver inside, never been burned on.) $300 for pair of GT40 heads. $100 for hooker 6901 ebay. Free roller lifters, roller cam (specs below), dog-bones, spider bar. Traded an old laptop for a set of 1.7 Crane roller rockers. Here, let me cut and past from my web-page. Pulled 265 hp at the wheels, or approx 330hp at the crank. Total price approximately $2200 including every nut, bolt, gasket, etc. Surprised me. I never added it all up. I always guessed it was around $600 for engine, and $600 for carb, but when you start to add in all the other little parts, it adds up quickly! But, I didn't have to spend all of this at once, because most of this had been added to my original engine. When I blew it, I just swapped all the parts over to the new block, added the roller stuff, and then purchased the carb later after the 600 cfm was too lean.
Believe it or not, i think that if my motor was running right, it would have made 280, i found out i was only firing on 6 cylinders too. roller block, quick honing flat top pistons roller tick flow stage 1 cam trick flow roller lifters comp cam valve springs performer rpm intake 600 holley vac sec e7 heads with a bit of porting around 700 at the end of it all seems unrealistic but...
These prices are off the top of my head but still pretty close, engine guy says I should be 300-325 at the crank. This long block ran god in my 91 mustang with injection. I forget which rings are in it but I planned on a 150 shot of nitrous from the start. New summit racing 5.0 roller block zero decked 600 E303 cam 100 5.4 aftermarket rods w/ arp bolts on ebay 130 kb747 forged pistons, standard bore 400 misc gaskets 110 gt40 heads, purchase, rebuild w/ 5 angle valve job,30 thou milled and behive springs 600 summit stage 2 intake (performer rpm knock off) 50 mallory unilite used 20 6901 headers 50 frpp windage tray free quick fuel 600 double pumper 200 puts me about 2200.
Funny you mention running on 6 cylinders. 2 rockers walked off on me on my drive home from dyno. So I have no idea if they were functioning at top notch when I ran it. By the way, that was without Nitrous. I still have not gotten the balls to hook that up yet.
for me it would be around 2000 but i want to read everyones build because this can help other members with there engine build i just LOVE reading about these kind of things
I don't know the HP yet.. $300, 1996 Explorer motor, $75 X cam, $150 used Cobra 1.7 roller rockers....and that's it so far.
My $50 build: 242 HP 281 TQ: http://www.freewebs.com/alexmaverick75/first.html In my current build I already surpassed that price in just the bolts
I re-built the original mexican block 302 in my blue mav in 1990 (because the rear main started leaking)... 1.7:1 ratio roller tipped crane rockers. Screw in 7/16" studs, Isky valve springs. Mild porting & 3 angle valve job on stock 58.2 CC heads. Bored block 30 over. Re-conned Stock rods with ARP bolts, Stock crank (only needed polishing on journals) chamfered oil holes in it. Block bored 30 over, studded mains (ARP) & zero decked, New stock oil pump and brass freeze plugs. New parts consisted of: Clevite cam and bottom end bearings. Sterling (TRW) cast pistons with 2 valve reliefs (not 4) plain old sintered iron rings (Federal mogul) with low tension oil rings. Rotating assy balanced. Iskendarien cam. IIRC...The specs are as followes...Lift int: 487 Lift exh: 496 Duration at 050...218 int 220 exh... 112 deg int C/L Hydraulic cam. A very nicely tweaked holly 600 cfm carb (4150) on a 1/2" open spacer.(fed by stock mech fuel pump) Edelbrock performer intake. Stock oil pan / stock exhaust manifolds (extrude honed). 2 1/2" exhaust pipe dual exhaust with crossover pipe 20" back from manifold flanges. Walker mufflers (nothing special here) I wanted it quiet... Stock points distributor (LOL) 14 deg initial timeing 34 deg total at 2400 RPM 10.3:1 comp ratio (likes 93 octane fuel...Nothing less will do). Has a stock 3 spd stick in it and 3:23 gears in the trak lok rear 8" Dont know about HP numbers but the car has run a best of 12.23 in the quarter back in the day. Even got 3" of daylight under the left front tire the one and only time I ran it on drag slicks (and tore the left shock mount off the floor pan, It ran 11.98 on that pass) Cost to build this engine...Remember it was 1990, $873.47. My machinest freind owed me a big favor so all machine work was a freebee. Add about 500.00 to the cost if I had to pay for machine work/balancing back then... This car consistenly got 26 MPG at 65 MPH on the highway and 17 to 20 city. I know this set up leaves some grunt on the table with the ignition/exhaust. That will improve with the addition of the GT-40 heads (despite the C;R drop) and better exhaust sys/ ignition and intake. Might actually be curious enough about HP/TQ after this thing is done to have it rear wheel dynoed...
