I recently purchased a 1979 granad for the 5 lug swap the tag on the rear end has the following numbers WDW-AF 8-KA and below them are79- 8- 551-A. My 1970 Grabber has a tag that reads WDV-M 0FD and below that it has the following numbers 79-8 510A I'm not sure what all that means and if I have to change the whole rear end or just pull the axles and also what the gear ratio is.
the first set is where it was made if memory serves and the other set tell what gears are in them and also identify 8", 9", etc. from what you say I'd bet there's another # under the bolt head that holds the tag on and I'm guessing it's probably a 2. so that means that both of these axles are 2.79 geared 8"s. there will be a #, a space, a 2-digit #, a space, a #. the 1st # combined with the 2nd # are the gear ratio 2 79, the 3rd # is the axle type 8 for 8" ring gear. someone with more knowledge is going to have to answer the rest since I'm not sure about whether the axles will interchange.
