Go to the Canada Customs website, it'll tell you in detail what you need to do. It's something like faxing the title to US customs 72 hours before you cross (fax it to the border crossing you plan to cross at) then you have to stop at US customs for them to inspect the car (usually they just have a quick look) then you stop at Canada Customs, they do the same, then you pay the TAX. In Ontario, we then have to have the car appraised, before we switch the ownership, and again pay tax on the appraised valve before it's in your name. If you don't do the 72 hours thing, they will impound the car.

The car was probably born in Canada - just tell them you're taking it back home  :rofl2:

Yep Dave pretty much nailed it. Got mine from Michigan. The 3 day wait period is the biggie to export out of the US. The Canadian customs told me they dont care about the 3 day export rule. They wont stop you bringing the car back to Canada. The issue is if for some reason the car had say a lean against it and you exported it then you are now responsible for the US lean on the car. You wont be permitted back into the US.
Get the info from the US customs site for export regs. is the best advice I could give you. The canadian site is a bit misleading and cost me an extra trip.
Its a real easy process to export though. No hassle at all with the US customs. Good people. Helped me greatly. Told me exactly what I needed to fax and do to get the car home.
It was more hassle to get the trailer from uhaul than it was to export the car. Thats another story.

I don't think barging a car would be cheap. I would rather get a trailer and haul it myself unless of course it is drivable. It sounds like you are getting some good advice from others who have taken things across the border. Just make sure you have all of the proper paper work and that it is properly filled out. They seem to like their paper work. Good luck.

Exempt from updating it, but you still have to do the customs stuff
