Hey folks, I replaced my clutch cable that went out on me this morning. I've ran the new cable, now I cant seem to engage/disengage the clutch. What gives??
Does the pedal feel like its just jambed tight? I had an issue on my mustang once after some header work and it ended up being the clutch fork cover jambed up against the fork. Took it back off, smooth clutch one swing to cover with a BFH and all is well again
was the first clutch cable bad. it sounds like to me the clutch it self is bad. either a hub spring poped out and is jaming the clutch or the clutch lineing came of and jamed up. or the clutch fork could be broken or may have come off its pivit ball.
yea the other one was stiff till the car would warm up, then it was smooth as butter. I think it could be the bracket that I had welded to the pedal assembly. That I bolted the quadrant to. The quadrant isn't at the top when the pedal is all the way up. I will not know for sure till I get the car home, and up in the air.
I know all too well the smooth when warm, hard when cold situation. My issue was caused by the cable being too close to the exhaust (1/2" away). It would warm the plastic sheathing in the cable, but as soon as it cooled off, the plastic would harden and you couldn't release the cable. If you are still running the adjustable Mustang quadrant and not a fixed type, you may have to manually adjust the quadrant by inserting the cable and releasing the adjuster pawl by hand(careful, it hurts if your fingers are in the way!) The stock arrangement has a metal stop to release the pawl when you pull the pedal up to automatically reset the quad to the correct preload and if your installation does not have this installed, you'll have to do it manually. What set up are you using for the quadrant?
its an aluminum quadrant that is bolted to a steel plate. The steel plate is welded to a maverick clutch pedal assembly.
