Well? What is out there? I know this is a pretty broad question, but I was just wondering. I haven't really been able to find a solid answer about how we'd be able to make any stock 6 cyl Maverick engine EFI. I vaguely remember hearing about mega squirts and throttle body doodads. I know the 300s had fuel injection eventually.
It's been tough to find anything specific, but I'm still looking. I just know some of you guys are better googlers (is that a word?) than I am. So far from what I see they used a standard throttle body style. I was looking for more of a direct port deal, but oh well. The 300s are big block anyway right?
Give this site a go! I'd recommend this required reading if you have a 6 cyl! http://fordsix.com/tech.php
Have a manifold modified for injectors and get the computer, harness and sensors from a 300 and build your own. My dad's 89 has MPI on his 300.
You could buy an auzzie crossflow aluminum head and fuel injection unit. They make good power too http://www.fordsix.com/XF200ci.php
This guy converts Chevy TBI to work with inline six engines. He primarily does it for Jeeps, but he told me he could do one for my 250 I6. http://www.howellefi.com/customer/jeep-tbi-products/
You will have to mill the manifold for 300 stuff. I wouldn't think that it would be worth it. Throttle body injection is an option but if you're dead set on MPI, crossflow aussie head might be best but parts availability would suck! A 2 barrel carb conversion isn't a bad deal either and the 6cyl sites listed above give a lot of info on your options. A header for that engine with a cam upgrade is one of the single best things you can do with it. If you keep the stock head, I would also make sure you get the port separator plate for the center exhaust ports. I personally like the idea of adding a turbo due to the awful intake/head design.
I have an Aussie setup and will be using a 4-bbl (Autolite 4100) until I can buy and EFI setup. I like the way the guys at Howell talk. I'm gonna get shot, but GM did make the best TBI setup.
Wonder why those guys would bother with TBI on a Jeep when you can buy a multi port kit from the 4.0 to fit a 4.2 carb. engine. TBI is ancient technology. You'll still have the same crappy fuel distribution you do with the carb. It atomizes better than a carb. but still has distribution issues. Granted it will run better and you wont have to play with carb. settings. If your shooting for better driveability TBI is an option but I wouldnt invest money in it for power.
After having driven an injected 4.0 Jeep, I don't see why anyone would want one. No balls and 9 MPG. This was an 04 model, I had a carbed 258 79 CJ-7 and it would run rings around the 4.0 and get a couple MPG better.
