Recently I have been having problems wit the C4 in my maverick. First off the car has to warm up for 15 minutes every morning before i can put it into reverse, so I can back it out of the garage. Secondly for the first couple of miles that I drive it, it will suddenly drop out of gear and go into neutral for a couple of seconds (it seems like forever when your on a busy road). Normally I have to let it sit for a second or two and then slowly rev the engine once or twice and it will pop back into gear. Ive noticed it dose this the most when I take my foot off the gas (going around corners, stop signs and red lights). The thing that concerns me the most is when it first started to happen. First I ran the car kinda hard (about a 200 mile trip) then I installed a floor shifter, then the weather got really cold, and then I started to have problems. All within about a week. So I really have no idea what could be causing the problem. From reading the other posts it sort of sounds like morning sickness, but not quite. Any ideas?
First; check and fill the fluid with the engine idling in Park. If the level is right then plan for a rebuild.
Got it fixed!!! It was out of fluid so i got a bottle and also some of that repair fluid and it seemed to fix the problem. the real test will be tomorrow morning when i try to back it out of the driveway.
Repair fluid? OOOooohh noooooo. Well you have a while before your rebuild so start saving your money. or better yet get a core and have it built so when your transmission starts slipping, locking in gear or leaking you can just swap it out. that will save the rebuilder from having to clean up the mess in your transmission.
