    To run wheels with a lot of offset, more parts available, cheaper, etc....

    I have a 3.73 trac-loc 8.8 laying around, that's the only reason. Plus they are pretty strong, and I would think lighter than a 9 inch. :hmmm:

    that has the gear i want, lighter than a 9, and stronger than a 8.!

    Pretty much what was posted earlier, stronger than an 8, takes up less hp to run than a 9. As far as the suspension, just an overhaul with bigger sway bar up front and a bar out back
