so i happened to come a across a narrowed dana 60. cast number c30255. it has a complete 4 link set up with it. axles, 3 sets of gears and few odd and end pieces. it has never been bolted together. i can prolly get it all for around 300 bucks whats your thoughts on putting this set up in a maverick. or just get it sell it and put a mono leaf with cal tracs in mine and still have extra cash anyone on here running a dana?
Nothin' wrong with a Dana if you don't have to change alot. Ford uses Dana axles in the front of alot of small 4X4's and F-super duty
The smaller Dana 44's I believe were in the fronts I had a 1970 E-300 Ford Van that had the big Dana rear with the floater axles and 8 lug rims. I would guess that was a Dana 60?
Rumor is the Mexican mavericks got Dana 44s! No problem with running one. Also if you look at the old pro stock mavs several ran Dana 60s.
The Dana's with floaters could be 60's, 70's, or 80's and I heard of a 90 but I don't think I've actually seen one. The front axles were usually 35's and 44's in the Explorers, Aerostars, Rangers. The 60's and 70's could also be semi-floating. The 60, I understand is comparable to Ford's 8.8. Front axles cannot be used for rear axles tho. I know that sounds obvious, but you never know if someone will try it.
the dana 60 is a good diff to use for drag race. if you want to back half your car and feel that you will benifit from it being back halfed then go for it. i dont know how much power or what times your trying to run but i know of plenty of "stock suspension" cars running in the 7s in the 1/4.i personaly am a big fan of caltracs and would go that rout.
The Dana 60 is much larger and much stronger than the 8.8 ever could be. It has a 9.75" ring gear compared to the 8.8" in the 8.8.
yeah ive been more intersted in a cal trac set up for mine. im lookin more to probably to sellit. im getting all of this for the price of the spool that comes with it
The Dana 60 is a strong and heavy rear end. Chrysler used them in the Hemi cars and 440 - 4 speed cars in the 60's and 70's.
