well I'm most likely putting 17s on the mav. i know 17x8s with 4.5 bs and a 245-45-17 will fit well for the rear question is about the front? should i go 225-45-17 mounted on 17x7 w/ 4.25 bs? or should i try a 225-45-17 with 17x8 w/ 4.5 bs or even the same 17x8 eith 235-45-17...either tire on the 17 have similar section width.. 235-45 on 8 section width would be 9.4 225-45 section with would be 9.3 once you add .20 from going 7.5 to 8.... .20 per half inch with 7in section width would be 8.9 for 225-45-on 17x7
Thanks I know about that page though i can never seem to find it when i need it lol.. but that still doesnt answer my questions we need to make some kind of thread about what tiresizes/rims/bs combos that work so everyone has a more indepth idea.. i know 4.25 up front would work...has a 235-60-15x7 and it cleared not sure if the 235-45-17 would clear though i can always use a .25 to .50 spacer if needed for the 8. Just figured someone on hered would have ran these or something similar enough to know..
Start up the thread! I'll include all the wheels i've ran. The only issue is that with these old cars no two are alike. Some can get away with .25-.5 more offset than others.
backspace would be nice...but from what i remember you have mustang bullits? which is like 6.25 bs so you what 1.25 spacers front and 2.5 spacer rear?
yes i know tolerances sucked...but atleeast it'll give ppl a pretty good idea on what they can most likely run on gm cars 15x7 fronts with 4.25 could run anything up to 245-6015 up front and 15x 8 4.5 bs for 295 50s or 275-60s 15x 10s need 5.5 to 5 5/8 depeending is...point is for gm cars everyone has a really good idea on what they can run
see post number 5... http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?p=760445#post760445 5.95" backspace(+24mm offset), 17x9, 245/45/17 *1" spacer in front, 1.25" spacer in rear*
hehe, I've already started a spreadsheet. but it does sound easier to make a thread devoted to tires sizes, with pictures. It should also include any modifications done, like lowering, lip rolling and rear swaps.
so would it be safe to say that a 17x8 with 4.5 bs with 0 offset will clear with a 235-45-17 up front? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RPM-R15-786545/?rtype=10
yea figured rim/tire width wouldnt be a problem on the outsude since you posted youre combo...just wasnt sure if 4.5bs would push it too far in to rub..but the beauty of too much bs is you can always add spacers :-D just would rather not if i dont need to
4.5" backspacing and 0" offset mean the same thing so you only need to specify one or the other. To convert backspacing to offset, use this formula: Backspacing - [(wheel width + 1") / 2] = Offset Ex. 4.5"bs - [(8" wheel + 1") /2] = 0"os
bump so need you guys to make a final decision for me for the front combo.. definatly going with 225-45-17s which rim though? 17x7 with 4.25 bs and +6mm offset which totals? or 17x-8 with 4.5 bs
More personal opinion than anything, but If you're using a 7" wide rim, I would say at least a 225 width tire but I prefer the 235. 8" rim I would use at least a 245 just because the lower profile tends to make the tread seem slimmer that the rim width. You are more likely to tear up a rim if you even slightly bump a curb while a tire that is slightly wider that the rim (section width) will hopefully allow the tire to hit 1st. I like the appearance of a meatier tire which means running a wider tire than rim width. I know it's a smaller rim size but I think the outer diameter is close and width should be close as well. I am using a 16X7 TT2 with a 245/50R16, so hypothetically you should also be able to use up to a 245/45R17 with similar clearances. My front pan is the closest tolerance at .5" but that can be adjusted with the strut rods when you do the alignment. Your alignment guy may not like you but you can use shims to adjust caster if you're way off after moving the strut rods.
