I know the factory Grabber hoods are fairly desirable and somewhat hard to find, but I'm wondering what the demand is for the factory Comet GT hoods. I don't have any experience with the Comet parts, so I wasn't sure if the GT hoods are in as high demand as the Grabber hoods.

I recently acquired this hood with a batch of Maverick parts and I wanted to get some feedback on it's worth before I decide what to do with it. It's in pretty good shape, but does have some rust under the front lip. The scoop, emblem, and front trim are still intact.

    Any input would be appreciated.

A Comet GT hood is just a regular Comet hood with a scoop on it. In my opinion, nothing special about the hood itself.

I would be interested in it, just so I can have the stripe pattern and the scoop.

I agree with Craig. The rust under lip is pretty bad, lowering the value.

JMHO, but Comet hoods in general are getting harder and harder to find just because there were not near as many Comets made as there were Mavericks. Then add to the fact that a lot of the Comets were parted ot for people using the parts on thier Maverick and the number of Comet hoods is dwindling pretty low.

I agree with the guys above that the fact that the hood is a GT hood doesn't make it much more desirable other than the scoop being an original GT scoop.

So basically like I said Just my humble opinion but the fact that it is a Comet hood makes it worth more to the right person (someone that has a Comet with a jacked up hood or someone that wants a factory GT scoop rather than an aftermarket scoop) But they do make a scoop that is pretty spot on in the looks dept. compared to the GT scoop so..... There you have it....

I just had someone give me 2 Comet hoods, I had no use for them, so my kids used them as toboggans......

I did an internet/forum search for Comet GT hoods for sale before I posted this question and I wasn't able to find any previous listings or current ads. This makes me believe that they have to be much more rare than the Grabber hoods.

I do understand that any stock Comet hood can be made into a GT hood by adding the scoop, but there has to be some added value for being a factory original GT hood.

Like I said in my original post, I don't have any experience with Comet specific parts and their value, so I may be way off base.

If everyone tells me they aren't worth any more than the value of the scoop, then I guess that's what I'll go off of. I'm sure I'll get some people telling me it's not worth anything and then turn around and try to buy it off me for next to nothing.

Keep the comments coming and help educate an uninformed Maverick owner.

    Thanks

If anything, the scoop is worth more than the hood, I've seen them sell for close to $300 on Ebay. They are the same as Cougar Eliminators.

So maybe the best plan would be to pull the scoop off and sell it seperate and scrap the rest of the hood?

My opinion is the hood is not worth much in it's current condition. The scoop will bring good money as will the hood lip molding if it is in good shape. Possibly some desire for the latch as well.

With that hole in the hood, they pretty much wrecked it. But like Craig was saying, if it's still the factory paint, it would be good to measure it, people always ask what the factory dimensions are, for the black out.

Sounds like the general consensus is that the scoop, front trim, and possibly the front emblem may be worth something and the hood is worth scrap.

I guess you learn something new everyday (stick to Maverick parts).

I have regular & GT Comet hoods. The scoop is worth more than the hood itself. Factory GT hoods had no hole cut in them. The emblem & hood lip trim would be of value if in good shape...

I didn't even notice the hood had a hole cut in it. Yeah....that really cuts down on the value of the hood itself.

I can't believe anyone here would advocate scrapping a part that is not reproduced if it is repairable. As mentioned before there were fewer Comets made so the hood has some value to someone. You could sell the scoop but they aren't fetching $300 lately from what I've seen. The lip trim can also get a descent price but before you scrap the hood, if you can hang on to it, offer it up for sale at the scrap price. Maverick guys have no use for a Comet hood but to the right person it may be of value...:2cents:
