It SHOULD get you down the on ramp of the interstate to merge successfully.

I have a 73 (stock 302, not Grabber). It's rated at 210 HP and merges on the freeway quite nicely. Actually I get a few smiles from people that I pass. Acceleration is very adequate and the 302 is quite easy to build upon should you wish too.
In my case, keeping it as original as possible is the preference, I'm not into racing anymore. But it has plenty of power and get up and go if thats all you are looking for.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
Get it! Looks wise you can always swap to smaller bumpers. With a intake, cam and exhaust it'll be plenty fast for a 17 year old. Then you can save up to build a real beast. They are really fun to work on! And the best part is that it's easy, even for a kid.

It has potential. Upgrades are fairly easy and affordable.
In stock 74 trim your buddies civic will likely leave you standing.
I guess it depends on what you consider FAST???
As a teenager a 14 second car I considered fast.
Now I would have to say 12 second or less I consider fast.

Unfortunatly that was under the pre-1972 rating system, which used the flywheel horse power rating. Under now a days NET rating system which is at the back of the transmission with all accessories hooked up, it's only rated at around 140 horse power stock.

welcome from mission b.c. canada, and i am also of the opinion that this is a good entry level hotty car with lots of potential to be a respectable street , strip performer. no doubt about it ..these cars turn heads when you dress em up.. good luck.

My 73 had a whole lotta go but no whoa. Front disc brakes solved that problem though.
