Need to get new battery for the 74 mav 302, with aftermarket fan. I forget what fan i put in but it seems to pull a lot of amp's What I'm looking at is Battery amp's, Any ideas
Optima, red top. More money than a regular battery, but well worth it. I've had one for over 7 years, still going strong.
Here's the ones I buy, they fit everything I have: Part Number: 75/25 (8022-091) RedTop®; Battery; UNBOXED; Group 75/25; Cold Crank Amps 720; Crank Amps 910; Reserve Capacity 90; Ampere Hour 44; Dual Terminal; L-9 5/16 in.; W-6 13/16 in.; H-7 5/8 in.; I use to buy them at Wal Mart they were priced right, Costco also had them for a bit. http://www.optimabatteries.com/home.php
Any AGM type battery. They are sealed for the most part and wont leak acid on the car. Optima is the popular one but I think the quality has dropped off. We see a lot more failures than we use to in our customers cars. I run a Carquest AGM battery in the Mav. Cant remember the specs but its a beast. I'm real fussy on batteries and always get the most power and reserve capacity I can fit in the vehicle. http://www.carquest.com/batteries/pdf/CQ_NGT.pdf
I agree Darren! I have had 2 Optima Red Tops in the last year and have taken each of them back for warranty due to dead cells.
You need to have an alternator to keep up with the fan and other accesories and then the size of the battery is less important. It only has to have enough reserve to start the engine under all conditions. Once the engine is running the alternator charges it back up and powers all the electrical devices.
Even though he thinks he knows everything about everything i'd have to agree with PaulS on this one! but as far as Batteries go i would agree wth Dave Boyer i have the Optima in two of my cars and they have impressed me over and over! just my opinion.
Agreed. You will need the alternator to keep up with the loads in the car. You only asked about a battery though. Have you upgraded the alternator??
