Couldn't find anything regarding the Bronze Age 1973 Comet on the site. Is it one of those 'Under the Radar' special editions? Have a look, Bronze Age is listed at the bottom. It was across 4 different Mercury car lines.
There has to be one around in one of those 7 colors, nothing else would really separate one from another Comet. Very interesting.
That is real interesting. This website would explain where the factory pink Mavericks came from. I have ran across a few Mavericks missing the paint code. I know the purple Mavericks on here would fall into this category. Now....if we could only find out the promotion behind the colors!!
It mentioned that some kind of tan interior with metallic brown seat upholstery inserts was part of the Bronze Age package. 6 different paint codes, but all with a brown vinyl roof. So ... a 73 with odd upholstery would be the biggest tip-off here.
I love threads like this. Here is a picture that I took recently, in an Arizona yard, of a 73 or higher PINK Maverick with a tan interior. It doesn't look like the pink is from the factory though. I'll have to look closer the next time I am there.
Bronze Age or "Spring Special Package" as it was promoted included 6 of the Mercury Lincoln line cars from the Comet to the Mark IV. It is considered to be the last of an era in classic car promotion packages. These special option car builds started in 1967 and ended with the 1973 year builds. The Cougar was the main target of these builds with such optional builds as the Gurney Special and the XR7G, (for Gurney) the 7 and 6.5 litre cars etc but to promote the rest of the M & L line it was carried over to small production amounts with them also. I personally appreciate the rareity of these cars but was never impressed with the color, especially the metallic vinyl. Reminded me of Mopar which they used metallic vinyl for everything. Ford had several "What do you want" years. It was almost possible to get anything you wanted, within some reason from the late 50's until 1973. those were the good days.
