missing

    what could cause my car to miss? i replaced distruibuter parts, plugs, wires and its still missing. Its missing outta cylinder 5....for the life of me, i just cant think of what else it might be.

    1972 Maverick 2 door.Original V-8 3 spd std shift.Also a 72 one owner Sprint sporting a 351 Windsor
    Could be a burnt valve if all else is good...Bent push rod...Are plugs gapped properly?? Is fireing order correct???

    It could be a worn cam lobe, I would start with a compression test and see where your at:tiphat:

    i would also recommend checking the compression. If compression checks out remove valve cover, check your rockers/valves, may need to dig further and replace valves/pushrod as mentioned. I had this problem over the winter, I turned out to have 2 dead plugs back to back when I swapped which was really odd but 3rd time was the charm haha.

    a real easy "I'm always somewhere without my tools test" is to disable the ignition and crank the engine over and see if it turns over consistently without sounding like it gets faster at one spot. Cranking speed will quickly increase when the weak cylinder comes up.(as if you pull a spark plug)

    I would first diagnose the new parts, some parts are bad out of the box. Switch a plug wire out on number 5. If that dont work, switch the plug, than do listed above and compression check and pulling the valve cover.

    thanks guys i really appreciate it, its been driving me insane for while now haha but other then the slight miss, it seems to run strong :banghead:
