Well here is my pride and joy (Maverick is Pride, you get a glimpse of Joy) I love my car no matter what it looks like I imangine the end result of what it's going to look like and it looks great. Yea it was a bummer no one appriciated it but it's my car and I love it. Here is the before, hopefully I will have some afters sometime in my life. Oh yea and it has glass packs
Heres what my car use to look like, i felt that my car wasn't "cool" enought to go to a car show. Once its running again (hopefully this weekend) ill end up taking it to a couple car shows. Hopefully ill put on my new spoiler this weekend and put "trans am eater" on the trunk wing and do a big burnout over trans am buddys house. I like your car. Is it an original grabber?
. hey your mave looks fine, nothing wrong that a lil bit of tlc wont take care. i see its already a v/8 car , got a aluminum radiator, and a good battery. your ahead rite there. plus you can go in any direction you want to with this car. drive it man and enjoy it.
http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=50093&highlight=car+show&page=4 Read this, i was a little paranoid. Now i just call the car a rat rod or hot rod or whatever. This car will probably never be a "trailer queen" (unless it runs faster than 10 seconds in the 1/4)
Think about it. When you go to a car show or cruise=in, do you flock to the beaters?.....are the primer and duct tape rides the ones that grab your attention first? The majority of old car owners own beaters or "works in progress", myself included, so when I go to a mini meet or cruise-in, I tend to check out the nicer cars first, for ideas, inspiration....I truly love, appreciate, and respect beaters and driven projects, but I've got 12 of them in my yard that I see all the time, so when I'm at a show, I'm not concentrating on the beaters/projects....I'm looking at the nicer, more complete cars. My son's 70 Chevelle wagon is a flawed driver quaity project....looks nice, but has a few rust spots, seats are torn, cowl induction hood is in surface rusting primer......we took it to an A&W drive-in cruise night.....no one really took much notice of the car while we were sitting by it watching the crowd pass by, no one really struck up any conversations with us. Then, we took a walk around and checked out some of the nice cars, started conversations with their owners, and before long, the wagon came up, and the discussion, and the people, moved to our car, Two guys who each owned really nice 70 SS Chevelles even moved their cars on each side of our wagon to make a little 70 Chevelle section, and we spent the rest of the evening swapping stories, tips and opinions.....the best part, we got all sorts of good recommedations for sources of parts, paint and body work, performance parts, etc. In other words, don't take it too personally, park your car, walk around, start your own conversations....there'll always be snobs and a-holes at these things, but you might be suprised how friendly and fun it can be if you're patient, and not afraid to maybe break the ice yourself. And, like me, keep working for the day your car is one of the nice attention getters too!
I'm 53 sorta working on 54,,, you should see some of the crap I still drive!!! I'll talk to anyone and can come up with some of the best stupid things to say at times,,, but somebody still tops me! Sounds like you ran into a whole herd of them! Never leave in shame,,, just leave them with their shame! Car looks good!
I do the monthly cruise in's around here, and the annual Blue Suede Cruise in Tupelo, MS. There are a lot of cars that show up that look like they were pro built for mega dollars, and lots of not so perfect cars like mine, too. I like to do like others, check out everybody else's ride just to get ideas for mine. We usually set up the canopy and chairs and there will always be somebody to come by and talk. I went to one cruise in where most of the folks were snobby and didn't want to talk to anybody. Guess what? That cruise no longer happens. Got to the point nobody would show up. I have often said my car is no show car to compare to say Dan Hines or Rayzorsharp's, but I carried it to the mini meet in Atlanta in 2008, bad paint and all, and parked it right beside Ray's car! Didn't bother me a bit, because we are all car guys. Mine was built to suit me, not everybody else, but I'm not ashamed to let people look at it, either. :Handshake So hold your head up high, respect is earned, never given!
Once again last night I was blown away! in the bar where I work they had a wedding reception...after about 2 hours I was taking a little walk through the bar and the groom was like hey come over here, I did and he said "what's up with the Maverick on your screen over there" (I was totally shocked) this guy was twenty something and knew what a Maverick was!! I told him it was my car and he said wow!...I love those cars, wanted to know all about what I had done to it....even said "put a 302 in it and a built c-4 and it will be a little bad a**" I was still in shock!! Told me he wanted to see it when I got done with it, I said I will be sure of it, he bought me a drink and we parted ways with a handshake. There are some people who know what these cars are capable of becoming and what fun they can be...this has been proven to me many times now and I am as proud to own this one (number 13) as I was my first.
How many Mavericks do you see at Car Shows? ,not many. That is the great thing about Mav's. Most people dont get , afew do. Its great to have something differant at the show. Anyone can own a Mustang Carmaro ...ETC. Half the people dont know what it is.....great fun.
Zero! That’s how many Mustang II’s, Mavericks, Comets, and Pintos we see here in Utah car shows or just showing up to see car shows. I find myself alone although this site says we have a few members in Utah. Is it time to sell my Mav and get a Fox body Mustang? Hey Justin I almost bought the Maverick you have but Bowling Green was too far away. I remember calling on it and the guy said you’re in Utah it snows there I replied yeah but I’m not going to drive it in the snow.
