Yesterday, I took the Maverick to a few small body shops. Most looked it over, gave me a quote. I got a few comments on "nice car" and "haven't seen one of those is awhile."

The last one I went to about fell in the floor when he saw my car. He then took me into the office and started showing me pictures of his '75 Maverick he use to own. He asked what other were quoting me and then said that he would beat them just so he could work on it.

I have a good feeling about him. He is a Maverick lover, so I think he will take good care of my Mav. He also said he would install a new trunk for me even if he has to fabricate it.

So looks like I will get rust removed, trim holes closed, wet sanded, base coat and clear coat for $1,500. Trunk will be determined once he determines his cost.

Thats a killer deal, just hope he's on the up and up. Materials alone for my mav were about $1500, then I did the rest. Wont pay someone $6k for a job I can do better.

Very good price, that alone makes me skeptical. Best of luck.

Nice price. Let us know how it turns out. I'm from Nashville, although I live down in North Florida now. I am due a trip up to Tennessee to see the Family. If this guy does a good job for you, maybe I'll trailer my 76 up there for him to paint.

Material alone, would cost more than 1500, for me to do a car at home....

Keep us informed how this works out. I am looking for someone to do the body work and paint on my Stallion and Comet GT, and Nashville is only 2 hours from me.

DVCRobin----Don't let anybody make you think you're getting a cheap paint job at that price. There are thousands of cars out there that have been painted by talented independent painters using quality paint that are right in that price range. It pretty much boils down to how much money he (or the shop) wants to clear when it's said and done. Some great painters won't lift a gun for less than over $100 an hour and some great painters will paint all day for a fair wage. I'm betting it turns out alright for you.

Most bodymen love working for .50cents an hour.Thats why we take a 4 yr. apprenticeship and go to college 3 times+ all the Icar training etc.,and yet everyone is better at it themselves or think we overcharge for doing the work properly.I can't even paint my own car myself for 1500.00......good luck.Does it come with a lifetime warranty on the paint. All our work does.:thumbs2:
