So this last weekend I went to the track, long story about just getting there in the Arizona thread. I drove there and the car ran just fine cruising along. I get ther and make a run and as soon as I shift int o2nd the car falls on its face like its runnign out of fuel. A few more passes and Gene mentions fuel pressure. I don't usually watchit going down the track because i"m focused on the tack. So I try to watch it and see it drop right before i shift. Once I let off and cost down the track it builds back up. Then on the way home It will barely maintain 3psi at cruise.

So I am either clogging the fliter or my Holley blue pump is going bad. I've already heard to stories of the Holey Blue pump loosing pressure and wanting to know how common this might be. Any others experience this?

I'm not sure how common, but I'd check your electrical connections, to make sure they all have good contact. maybe its cutting out and not maintaining voltage to the pump.

Also, at 3psi was it running lean at all, or could you keep it fed on that?

interested to hear how often as i also run a holley blue.........

Ryan I had a problem last weekend with fuel pressure to now that I think about it. Mine was my fuel pressure regulator. Don't over look that piece of the puzzle to.

I think the regulator is good. It comes back up to 5 psi at idle. the pressure definitley drops when under a load now. It got more evident during the day. Up until on the way home I was driving by the fuel gauge, slowing down as needed to build up pressure.

"Also, at 3psi was it running lean at all, or could you keep it fed on that?"

I don't have a way to confirm if it was lean, no A/F gauge. but when it got down to 3 psi it would not run good. I had to coast a little to build up pressure a gain. If it stayed at 3 psi too long it felt like it started to suck the flat bowls dry, wasn't keeping up with demand because volume was down if pressure was down. Pretty sure my problem is the filter, but if that's not it then it must be the pump. Just wondering how common the pump failure is.

Mine always last a long time. The only failure I've had, was the magnets turn loose, they get noisy or quit. I took it apart and epoxied it together, been good for a year now.
    Now leaking is another problem....

I haven't even popped the hood since I got home fromthe track. Lack of time and money. I want to order a new filter element for my filter and try that first. they are only $10 from Jegs. I'll try cleaning my filter because it should be CLEANABLE according to EARL'S. But I'll definitley feel better about having a new filter to try also before dumping $100 into another pump.

I probably won't be driving it to the meet. So for once I may be the guy showing up in the daily driver instead of a Maverick.

Today I ordered a new filter element for my Earl's aluminum fliter and a rebuild kit for the Holley blue pump. I figure one or the other will solve my fuel pressure problem. After 12 years the filter is due for a cleaning anyways so I'll put in the new one and clean the old one up for a spare. Hopefully this $25 purchase will be all I need to get it going again.
