If Ford ever decided to re-introduce the Maverick and Comet....which I know....we all know it probably will never happen....but who cares....it doesn't hurt to dream...

What would all of you like to see in its design, features, and options?

    Here's what I would like:

    1. For Ford to stay as TRUE TO THE ORIGINAL DESIGNS AS POSSIBLE.

    2. For the Grabber and Comet GT to be the first to be re-introduced, with stripe packages that stay as true to the orignials as possible...but maybe with some added flair. As close to original "snorkel/Manta Ray" Grabber hood, and Comet GT hood as possible.

    3. For the drivetrain, and supspension to be more muscle, like the Mustangs....we all can have fun debating the details on this one.

    4. Maybe design the modern versions 2 to 4 inches wider than the original ones. (width of whole car)

    5. Trim and Interiors with attention to 70's style fabrics, but with modern touches. Same original Steerhorn emblems, bucket seats, etc.

    6. Nice stock rims and tires similar to Mustangs/Cobras, but unique to Mav and Comet.

    7. stock...Bose high performance sound systems....(pipe dream).

I'll stop at 7....I want to hear what everyone else would like.

You forgot the 4 cyl part. Ford will never reintroduce the maverick.

But it was a economy/family sedan car. So I don't see how they would put any muscle car options on it. If it'd stay true to what mavericks were they'd end up with economy 4 cylinders.

It'd be cool if they brought these over here and put the maverick name on it:

By "Stay True"....I meant the body lines...emblems....overall shape of the car...

...Never say Never....cause Ford can do what Ford wants to do.

...4 cylinder....you've gotta be kidding me! Bite your tongue! :) Muscle ONLY!

If they brought the car you pictured over Alex...nice car...but looks NOTHING like the Maverick, so they can keep the name Falcon as far as I'm concerned....

    ...thanks for the comments.

You put a Maverick Rear spoiler type on that with grabber type hood scopes with Brazil stripe style kit and I would buy that as a Maverick family car - with all sport and performance upgrades of course.

as a part time automotive journalist I'll give my top five "what I'd like to see happen." and my five "what would probably happen."

What I would like to see.
1: Mav/Comet based off the Aussie Falcon and-or Jaguar XK platform (formerly the Thunderbird)
2: Coyote powered / Aussie turbo I6 with optional 6 speed
    3: Re-issue of period colors
    4: Track-pac option
5: Stripped down edition with all the go fast goodies

    Now would happen.
1: Special edition of the ford festiva with stripe kit
2: Special edition of the Ranger with stick on body kit
3: Re-badging of the ford fusion with enough electronic gizmos to choke a horse powered by an anemic 4cyl
Really what would happen is the rebadging of a any of ford's mediocre sedans so that covers 4-5

Since the demise of the Mercury marque last year we will never see another comet, cougar, or marauder :(

Yeah. Not enough room in the stable for more than one muscle car any more. Remember when Ford had not one but several two door rear wheel drive muscle, and almost muscle cars to choose from? Galaxy, Torino/Fairlane, Mustang, Falcon, Maverick.

I don't think it would be possible for a modern Maverick to be true to its roots without being an economy car. The newer Ford that fills that space is the Fusion.
It would have to fill a different niche than the Mustang to avoid cannibalizing Mustang sales. If I worked at Ford and had to make a rear wheel drive car that wasn't a Stang and close to a Maverick of the old days I'd make a sporty RWD coupe that was Fusion level on the price scale and weighed about 3200-3300 LBS The engine options would be base 3.5 liter 265 HP TVic V-6. A special Grabber model with the 3.7 305 HP Mustang V-6 as an option. 6-Speed auto or manual available of course. If the rat bastards upstairs would let me I'd have an optional 365 HP Eco-Boost V-6 optional on the Grabber. :)

And then of course it would cannibalize Mustang sales and be canceled :(

Could be wrong.. but I thought some Chinese car was called Maverick in the late 90's/early 2000's. Thought it was some type of family sub suv/escape style thing. Can't find the link now..:hmmm:

At the State Fair here, Ford had a section with a bunch of cars and new technology n such. I asked one of the reps, "So when are they coming out with the Maverick Re-release?" He told me "2012". I asked him "Are you serious??" And he replied, "About as serious as you were when you asked the question. *chuckle chuckle*"
    Burn.

Ya'll probably dislike me for saying this, but i kind of consider the fusion to be the new age maverick, that's why i bought one! been thinking about grafting the grabber style scoops from a fiberglass hood onto it. (i wouldn't dare cut up a real grabber hood)

Now this is closer to what I would envision a re-introduced Ford Maverick to be!

    My personal opinion:

    1. I would want a high performance V8 only. I couldn't care less about Public opinion polls on gas economy, and family car stuff.

    2. I like the Grabber hood and racing stripes.

    3. I don't think a Maverick with muscle would hurt the sales of the Mustang anymore than the sale of Cameros hurt the sale of Corvettes. Besides, when the original Maverick was introduced, it cut into the sale of most of the Ford cars of 1970, and everything was fine. Now maybe if Ford had 4 different muscle car offerings, it would be different. Ford was taking a 100 million dollar gamble on the original Maverick, and it payed off because they had the guts to do it...I think it would pay off again only if it was similar to a Mustang with muscle.

The guy that drew this is pretty talented. It would be even cooler if it had a tail spoiler.

    Would I be considered crazy if I would want a big-bumper version?:hide:
(With a lower price tag of course)

With a new high performance inline six from Australia with: EFI, DOHC, Turbo charger, and 4 liters of fun! :D as long as we're dreaming.
    I'm being totally serious BTW.
