So now that gas prices are up to around 4.10-4.20 a gallon i don't know what to do. ive never wanted to sell my maverick because its my first car and i cant imagine doing that after everything ive done. I think im getting around 12-15mpg in my 73 302 which i hear you can get around 20. its completely stock but some of the emission things are bypassed. What are some things i should and have, or not have, and what can i do to get a few more mpg? and yes i understand that the way you drive it has a bbiiggg effect on fuel economy haha someone driving with me actually asked if my car could take off fast.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
Do a 5 speed manual transmission swap, EFI conversion.

    30MPG is possible.

The cost of these swaps negates the fuel savings lol.

When i had a stock 302 i had the 1406 600 cfm edlebrock and 14" tires that were 25" tall. with careful driving and 3.00:1 rear gears i was getting close to 20mpg. 70mph freeway blasts with windows down doesnt help fuel mileage either. Also, what does your timing look like Brian? you can also make it breathe better I.E. - air intake and exhaust

Not if you shop smart.... It has been done for as cheap as $300(using stang parts).

But then again that number can jump up to $1000+ really quick when you start using better parts lol

I'm curenlty doing both of those swaps, but not for the MPG. A T5 is gonna be WAY more fun than the C4. And EFI is easier to tune for me, plus I love wiring (y)

Maybe I'll rethink the Boss 302 conversion for a while and leave in the 200 but what a waste of a toploader and 15" wide tires!!!

Id definetly put an electronic ignition and an electric fan on it. Probably be worth having it tuned on a dyno with a wideband also.

build a cold/ram air intake. use the biggest low restriction air filter like a k&n then duct air from the front of the car to the air cleaner. if done right you should see a decent increase on the freeway.

$3.46 a gallon here for the stuff I run through the Buick. and $3.68 for the garbage they are passing off as gas for the Truck. I heard that Colorado is about the lowest in the nation. and we are inland, seems odd. :hmmm:

Through my research, I have concluded that the best mod for fuel economy has been to glue a nail underneath the gas pedal; If I get on it the car isn't the only thing thats gonna roar.

Been working like a charm so far :Handshake
