I'm planning on fabricating a test set of tubular shock tower braces this weekend. I can't decide what kind of design I want to do. Anyone have any ideas on what would look cool? If they turn out nice I might try and sell a few sets. Could I get a show of hands who would be interested?

I'm planning to build my own, I have a tube bender and a welder so why not (y)
(And also Because I have a power brake car that requires a way different one.)

Scott's car has my favorite design so far, here's a pic:

I'm currently designing something similar to this, but without the heim joints, all solid welded construction. Probably welded to modified shock tower hats instead of bolted underneath.

Looks like less moving parts with this setup. Ideally they need to be welded to the car instead of bolt-in. Same reason with frame connectors.

Once I finish this first set I'll have an idea what they take to make and how much I should charge.

Thats why I want to stay away from the heim joints. Seems like too many flex points. I'm thinking something along the lines of what this guy did, but welded solid, instead of bolted. Also, I plan on making a straight monte carlo bar.

A problem I ran into with my straight monte carlo bar. With my small air cleaner it works fine... but I just got a factory air cleaner and the bar needs to be in front of the distrib as the air cleaner covers the back part of it.

This is more of a one off thing I plan on building for my car. I don't have the time or resources to mass produce anything. I will do a write up on it though when I build it.

Exactly. The setups that use heim joints at each end are only rigid in one plane, parallel to the bar. It can move in any other direction.

Mine are going to use the stock mounting locations, using 1/8th inch plate and mild steel tubing to join the two.

Mine are 1/4" steel plate with 1" diameter, .120" wall DOM tubing welded together. I took the easy way out for the plates that sit on top of the shock towers. McMaster-Carr sells what they call structural washers, 1/4" thick, 5 1/2" OD, 3" ID for $4.00 apiece. Part number 90108A050.
