my coolant is not cycling... i was told that sometime the 351 came with a plastic impeller and those would break and free spin on the pulley shaft. so im gonna change the pump and go from there. im just trying to get the car on the road then work the bugs out along the way you know. an aluminum radiator is definatly an upgrade tho! thanks man!!

I don't have a 351 but I know I have never seen these big water pumps have a plastic impeller. This would be the first for me if it does. I have seen that they make a reverse rotation impeller tho.. How are you determining that it is not cycling if I may ask?

the top radiator hose looks like its going to explode around 200-210 degrees and the thermostat is set to 180. its not the thermo because i just changed it and the one i took out was good so if it was the thermo it should be working now but no dice next few thoughts that cross my mind are radiator/clogged heater hoses/bad water pump. someone told me that i should take it up and down the road before i go and change the water pump to see if that fixes it but that makes no sense to me. if it is getting hot sitting in my driveway and there is no cylcing of the coolant then how is taking up the road going to fix it?!

i dont know im just tinkering for now. friday im picking up a new water pump and im going to change it then while my freind does the servo. then hopefully everything will be working properly and i will take it for the first trip down the road.

so thre head gasket is fine. checked all the plugs and the oil and antifreeze looks good. the radiator is just way too small. do you guys think a fox body 5.0 radiator would cool better?

on a different note i put edex/merc in the trans and now i have very little forward gears.. yay for me. i only drove it maybe 1000 ft with the dex merc in it and it stills moves a little so im hoping i didnt royaly **** the bands and im flushing the dex/merc out and putting in some type F friday.

anyone who has a B&M star shifter or any type like that how do you guys adjust the shifter to get all the gears? i edont know if it was the trans fluid being wrong but the shifting seemed sloppy( it has a reverse manual valve body in it).

    thanks guys!

Hi 4c, congrats on your car, I'm considering a windsor for my maverick (it currently has a 289) cause I have a 351 weiand blower kit waiting in my garage. What has been done to your car to fit that engine in? shock tower mods and headers?

the swap was done before i got it. but the towers were cut and narrowed for headers unfortunatly i dont have any YET. you dont have to narrow them but alot of people do because it makes it WAY easier to do the plugs and if in the future you want headers it makes it easier to fit and install them.

Ok, thanks for the info 4cfed, might look at crites but their headers only work with auto trans (mine has a Toploader), god luck with your project!

so the car also had a pooched trans. i have a c4 that im swapping in it this weekendin all hope the car will be ready after that. im pretty sure that it isnt the head that its the intake manifold gasket that is crapped out. im getting a torque wrench and im going to go through all the headbolts and intake manifold bolts and try torquing them down to see if there all at spec from what ive seen so far i dont think the guy that built my motor knew what he was doing or he just didnt use a torque wrench.

so today was finally a halfway decent day so i got under the car and me and a freind swapped in a c4 with a 2300 stall instead of the 2800 it had. and looking at the motor from under i realized that 2 freeze plugs are leaking anti freeze. would that make the car overheat and act funny? other then that i checked all the fluids and took off on the second test drive. this one went MUCH better i just have to get used to the b&m shifter. lol
