Ok I bought a 302 5.0 and I think from decoding the casting number it belongs to a 79 ltd or ltd2 not 100% sure. If someone know's how to decode correctly and could help me out that would be great. The numbers are D90E-6015-E3A. Im starting to buy parts for this engine to get it running and im curious if I buy maverick motor mounts will they bolt up to the ltd 302 or do I have to buy ltd motor mounts? I have a 73 maverick that originally came with a i6 and doing a 302 swap. Has anyone used an ltd engine in a maverick before?

You will need Maverick V8 frame stands that you can buy used or new from http://critesperformanceparts.com/

Buy Maverick engine mounts and they will bolt up to any 302 block.

The D9OE casting number would indicate what specific model it came out of , as they all pretty much shared the same block. In '79, if it came out of an LTD II or Thunderbird, it would have the old style front sump oil pan, If it was out of a regular LTD, Mustang, or Fairmont, it would have the double sump pan and dipstick in the side of the oil pan. This setup would have to swapped to the front sump style to fit in your Maverick.

This engine has the dip stick on the front of the engine and I believe it's the dual sump. If I have the front sump won't I have to modify a few things to get passed the sway bar and steering componets? I know on the i6 it had a rear sump. Also this engine has a huge pulley on it which makes it look like crap. Are those interchangeable with a smaller size say one belt only? I'm running nothing but the fan and alternator, no ac power steering or smog control.

    Would a 79 not be a 255?

The 79 ltd was only a 302 5.0 or a 351 5.8 that I know of. Dont think they made smaller engines for that year. Could be wrong.
