Well I've read alot on fordsix forums read alot on here and I've made the decision to keep my inline six. I'm not a drag racer I just want more power than what I'm getting now. Anyone have any experience using these hooker headers? http://www.jegs.com/i/Hooker+Headers/520/6601/10002/-1 Also I understand that the timing chain was retarted a couple degrees in I think '73 to pass emissions so if I order a new timing chain for a '70 200 i6 from a place like rockuto.com would it be the pre-emissions timing? Or would I have to track one down in a junk yard? Thanks
I had a 73 with an inline 6 all you need to pass the amissions test is a loud horn, no manifold leaks and good brakes all the lights working too. Don't think you would have a problem with the timing chain. The header should help a little only about 15 extra horse power.
I would recommend the following handbook: http://www.falconparts.com/ford-falcon-auto-parts/pc/SIX-CYLINDER-PERFORMANCE-HANDBOOK-4p135.htm From tune-up to rebuild. Rick
Buy your timing chain and sprockets at the same time and manufacturer as your cam. That way it is more likely to be right the first time. If you buy separately then be sure you get a multi-place gear so you can check the cam timing with a dial indicator according to the timing sheet that comes with your cam.
Exactly, you will want the pre-emission gear and chain. Classic Inlines should be able to order you a set. The hookers are fine but... As far as headers go you can't beat ClassicInlines stainless steel headers, the business owner builds everything perfect for these motors. They fit in our mavs and are priced great.
Other headers Hey Rusty, check out mustangs unlimited. They've got several styles of header for the inline 6's, just type in 200 headers in there search bar. I bought the single outlet header for my 250, but haven't installed it yet. I kinda wish I had bought the dual outlet though, but I already have a really nice 2 1/2 inch single to dual pipe setup that was under my 71 parts car. I ' also going with a modified head with a weber 2 barrel, and a high performance cam. from the research I've done I should get an additional 60 to 75 horses with this combo(I can't wait!). Good luck with yours.
I'm using the Hooker dual header for my Maverick with a 250 motor and I love it. It fits great too. That being said, I would have bought a header from classicinlines but they didn't have a long tube dual design that would fit the 250. You have more options for your 200. Whatever you decide I would definately go with the dual out header.
