Newbie here and going to look at a 72 Comet in a couple hours. I have no knowledge at all about these cars! :( I'm no stranger to classic or muscle cars though. Couple questions...

Anything I need to know specificly to watch out for?

All I know about the car is it's pretty much a stock 302 car. It's supposedly mint in and out. Black interior, bench seat, auto, nice black paint with old school ghost flames up front, vinyl top, added spoiler & scoop, added gauges.

If this car is indeed in great shape with no rust issues, could it be worth $4500 if I need to dump it in the future?

Is there any documentation that comes with the car like a "Marti" report? It looks nice in the pics but you will have to check for common rust issues. For me if any part of the car is rusted through, leeaking cowls etc., I would negotiate from there. You'll get more feedback here plus if you do some keyword searching others have recently asked this question and got the feedback you're looking for. It looks like a nice car but I'm bias. Good luck.

Make sure that you look under the car. The torque boxes are very critical on these cars and if they are rusted out it wont be structurally sound.

Looks worth it from the pics. Just check it out underneath.

    A $4500 Comet should be as nice as a $9000 Maverick! :)

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
X2! The exterior looks great! If the runing gear is good and no rust issues I see it being worth 4.5K (y)

    :rofl2: So true!

    Thats just plain mean Dan

If all checks out as far as rust and hidden issues it looks to me that at $4,500 the car would be a good buy

After looking around the forum for 30min, I think I picked up the major rust areas to try to check out. Nice forum you guys have! :thumbs2:

    Floors, torque boxes, cowl, etc.

This car supposedly came from California, so hopefully it's clean.

Nice looking car. Wonder how old the paint is? If it is new I'd check the other areas closely. If there is no rust issues it is definitely worth $4500. Good luck. Let us know what you find.:)

Well, I ended up giving him a deposit. :yup:

Looks like a nice, solid car. It's by no means a show car, but a pretty nice driver. Nice paint that is about 6 years old. I couldn't find any rust through at all. Floors, torque boxes, etc all look solid (what you can see anyways). Drivetrain is all original with about 111k miles, but ran great. Interior is nice. Vinyl top is very nice. Chrome is all in pretty good shape. I don't like the wheels, and have no idea what they are(he didn't either). He's got stickers plastered under the trunk lid and dash. :( According to him, he thinks everything is original except the obvious things like paint, wheels, and gauges. That vinyl top looked too nice to be original, but who knows.

Anyways, only took a few pics because we were dodging thunderstoms. I'll take more detailed ones when I get it home later this week.

Let me know what you think! Pick it apart if you want, won't bother me. Oh, don't be shy to offer a wheel trade. ;)
