Last time I was out there with Bryant I did my best ever with 109.8mph and 12.965. I couldn't get the nitrous to work last time and was trying all day to get it to work and finally on the 2nd to last run it worked. The best run of the day on motor was 109.95mph and 13.07sec and with 125hp shot I got 2 runs, best was 115.92mph and 12.527sec. I'm running a low compression 331 engine, 650dp, MT ET streets, traction bar and a 125hp shot. My 60 foot best was 1.98sec. I pressed the nitrous after switching into 2nd gear and barely ran out of 3rd by the end of the track with nitrous.
those 4.10s in your up coming 9" may not be enough. well if we put the cheater nos system in then jet it up to 150 hp. that may do the trick. good job today. wish i could have been there in the other lane.
thanks! it was great . . . I'm sure with practice the launches will get better. I burned the clutch pretty good on a few runs but the tranny still shift ok so I should be safe. And Bryant, remember how there the brake pedal was a little soft after we redid the front? After one hard break going down the track that thing was SET real good.
Congratulations. Seems like there was another Maverick guy in So. Cal that started out with a 12 sec. Maverick and now runs in the 9's or so. Wonder where this will end up????
Now Don, we all know it's not about how fast you can go in a Maverick/Comet... its all about the win light coming on Now how do I get my car into the 9's
When you say you pressed the nitrous switch you saying you have a button that activates the spray? Save yourself some heartache and install a micro switch. Then its worry free and you always know your at wot when the nitrous activates and no room for human error. A wot micro switch and a nitrous window switch will be your best friend with nitrous. And congrats on the times. Looks like 11's are in your near future with your new nitrous plans
Oh got ya. That still must suck lol. If I was at home mo I'd send you my back up window switch lol. Worth there weight in gold in a nitrous car.
I had to disconnect the window switch, for some reason it wasn't working well. A few other questions. Can I spray nitrous up to 6500rpm? Should I really stay away from a plate system on my dual plane if I want to play around with 175hp shots or higher?
You can spray all the way up to your redline if you want to, yet another reason why the window switch is vital. I always set mine about 100 rpm before my rev limiter. The only danger of spraying too high is that you spray while your car is on the rev limiter. In this case your pumping spray into a motor thats simply turning over with no spark.....once spark is reintroduced after the rpm drop to operating range again boom goes your manifold. I guess this would all depend on what your rpm range is. If your pushing it to the limit at 6500 I'd cut the spray a little short of that just to be safe. What kind of window switch are you using? I really like the zex window switches, although I hate there nitrous kits. I've never ran more then a 125 shot through a plate system on a dual plane intake. I've seen quite a few people loose motors at the track running there dual planes with large pills. When I first started messing around with nitrous in my Nova thats all I heard about. My tuner is the one who pushed me on the single plane when i wanted to jet up. I'd have to look around but I've even seen it on some tech articles and possibly even by a few nitrous companies that advertise not to use over a certain hp jet when running a dual plane. Let me see if I can find some info and post it up for you.
Cited off of a nitrous tech article from CHP "Of course, playing with big loads of nitrous also requires some careful planning. For example, with plate nitrous power levels above 175 hp, Edelbrock recommends using a single-plane intake manifold because dyno-testing has shown that it is difficult to control mixture distribution in a dual-plane intake manifold, which can lead to burnt pistons." From what I've seen up to around a 175shot the cylinder to cylinder a/f levels on a dual plane are really close, not enough to worry about. Above that and it gets dicey. Your choice Another article I found. This is from hot rod. They test a dual and single plane on a 180 pill and see no real diff in a/f from cylinder to cylinder, but of course thats at 180 pill. There reasoning is that someone's who's using bigger pills then that is doing a lot of drag racing and is probably running a single plane intake anyways due to the top end gains. I guess they forgot about the every day guys like me and you lol. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/hrdp_0907_nitrous_system_testing/index.html
with that mph you should be in the 12.0's but you also have no 60' , it should be in the 1.7's, and what do you go thru the traps at? is that a 3spd? or you just cant get it into 4th? Duane
