I am tired of throwing money at my power steering. Not to mention I hate it. What do I need to convert to manual. I would like to do this this weekend. I just need a parts list for power to manual. I don't want to use the adapter if possible also. Thanks...
You need the manual steering linkage and manual gear box with pitman arm. Just remove the steering pump, gear box, and steering linkage. Simple conversion. If you need any parts let me know.
Center link, idler arm, pitman arm, tie rod inner and outer, the tie rod sleeves. I think that's pretty much it. You can keep your PS gear box. If you have disc brakes you will have to keep the outer tie rods that go to the spindles.
mike75mav I do need the parts. PM me with info. So I thought I could just change the centerlink and pitman arm. I guess I will be changing it all then. I will be keeping my power steering box cause it is only 1 year old.
No you want to keep the power steering gearbox!!! It has a better turning ratio then the manual gearbox has. You get a steering ram drag link adaptor (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories ) remove the valve. Remove the pump. Or you can just look at this article in Hot Rod to see how its done, it will save you money, it makes it easy to put the PS back on if you feel the urge and you will have a better steering ratio. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/..._power_steering_to_manual_steering/index.html
I was thinking it would be better to go the route without the adapter. Never had luck withe easy way.
You need to change everything from tie rod to tie rod. You can not use the power steering pitman arm because, for the angle difference. The power steering gear box does have a different and you maybe moving the steering wheel to much. You will be able to feel the road a lot better.
The adapter is just a band aid fix.....swapping to the linkage is the right way to go. And you can probably get the parts cheaper than buying the actual adapter. I've bought stuff from Mike before, great seller!
BIt of advice for after the swap. If you keep the power box or go to the manual box you may have a slight issue with Caster. Without the assist you may find you need to adjust the caster to make it a bit more friendly at slow speeds. Keep your hands on the steering wheel not in it for the first drive.
X2 toe is slightly different too. I tried to just swap once without altering the alignment angles, it wasn't pleasant.:Handshake
