New guy here, AlaskaMaverick. I recently purchased a 1970 Maverick (for the cost of used tires) and would like to restore it. I am in need of some suggestions. The floor pans are rusted and need to be replaced, where can I find replacements? I have been told I could use Mustang floor pans??? I have the original I6 engine, should I rebuild or replace with 302 and of corse new rear end with the 302.
Welcome to the board. No one makes floor pans specific for a Maverick. Some have made Mustang ones fit. Use the search function to find any past threads. As for the engine that is your decision. If you change to a 302 definitely upgrade the rear also. A later Maverick or Comet 8" would be fine. They would be 5 lug so you also should change the front also or you would need to carry 2 spares since the 70 is a 4 lug car.
Another Maverick in Alaska In search of parts for my 1970 Maverick, I was contacted by an individual that had (I bought it) a 1974 Maverick. There were several owners to the 74 Maverick, each owner had their own ambition and vision. The vehicle has been repainted but there was a lack of preparation before it was painted (is primer a requirement? Just asking!) Several things I am going to do. First is to take out the 302 and rebuild it. Second I will repaint the vehicle. I would like to put a rear spoiler on it. Any suggestions? I have read the 67-69 Camaro, and the early 80's trans-am rear spoilers will work. Any suggestions for the rear spoiler? I'm also thinking about removing front and rear bumpers from the 70 and putting them on the 74. Are they interchangeable? Thanks for the advice in advance. Photos coming soon.
Yep, look at the pics of mine in my sig. It's a 74 with the earlier small bumpers swapped on. Lot's of info on here, just search for "small bumper swap". as for a spoiler. used Grabber spoilers come for sale from time to time, but they must be used with the small bumpers. The Camaro spoilers look like they might fit with some work. One member used a 1970 Camaro spoiler on his, it's the single piece unit, not the three piece. And another welcome from Alabama!
