it's a 5speed manual (T5). Yea I barely got into 4th. I'm still trying to figure out how to get my 60' times down. Any suggestions?
Are you bogging off the line? Spinning off the line? What tire pressure are you running? If i remember your running the mt et streets correct? I've ran a ton of 1.8s and 1.7s with the et streets radials but they will never be as good as a nice set of bias ply's. Sidewall deflection on them are awesome and will really hook for those low 60 foot times. But without seeing you on the track it would be almost impossible to say why your 60 foot times are suffering.
I have an aluminum flywheel and launching at 5K, no bog when launching at 5K. I don't feel any spinning on the tires, could the clutch slip because I do smell it after a good launch. I have the tire pressure at 15 right now.
Maybe I can launch at higher RPM's to overcome the flywheel. This Sat I'm going to Barona so I hope to get a few runs in and get my 60' down.
My shocks in the rear are double adjustable, I need to set them for max compression and min rebound? I'm still not sure when the traction bar needs adjusting.
The Aluminum wheel isnt helping your 60 foot times, but it will probably save your rag (fiber) clutch for a while, by leaving at 5000, the aluminum flyweel wont keep the inertia, but a steel wheel would make the clutxh absorbe the hit instead of pulling down. your are running traction bars? the snubber should be just touching the spring with you in the car. I run my Koni rears with the caltracs on the loosest setting, then tightened the right shock to keep the car from rolling over on the right rear. what rear shocks do you have? are you leaving on a two step? and what are you shifting the car at, and what are you running thru the traps at in 4th? you dont want to gear the car for 5th gear, that overdrive and will not take the power. but should run thru at max rpm in 4th. Duane ps My brother runs a 68 firebird D/S in NHRA stock with a stick, so I am a little used to him running 4spds, except he has a 800 dollar clutch and a gforce trans.
The trans is a G force T5, king cobra clutch, varishocks in the rear and caltrak traction bar. I'm leaving at 5k and ahift at 6500 and without nitrous I get through 4th somewhere in the 4k range. With nitrous I don't get into 4th.
with the caltrac, you should start with the aluminum roller just touching the spring, only preload if the car doesnt go out straight, John Calvert is only a phone call away and will answer any qusetions for you on his bars, he is great to deal with. if you are going through the traps in 4th gear at 4000 rpm, you need a ton mroe gear, what size tire do you have and what gear are you running? also are you running a two step for launching? if not, I would invest in one, its the best way to run a stick shift. Duane
mo a two step is a basically a momentary button that activates a rev limiter in the ignition box. what you do is when your staged and ready you push the button and floor the car. the motor will rev to the rev limiter that you have it set to and then when the lights drop you pop the clutch and release the button at the same time. that way your not paying attention to what rpm your at when you launch. your msd box should have that feature in it. it would be easy to wire up.
Throw at least some 4.10's in her. If you drive you car on the street and strip I really love 4.10's. If your just running it at the track you might want more gear then that. The two step is an awesome idea.
I'm getting rid of this 8" and Bryant is going to build me a 9" and I think he already has gears for me lined up that are 4.10. My MSD does have a 2 step circuit to use so I might try that.
How much have you learned since this project started?? Pretty cool to think how you have taken in, in a short time isnt it?? Love your threads. I get lots of good info from them.
Thanks! Oh man, I've learned a LOT. It's amazing how many factors are involved and how scientific the whole thing is. Let's see if I can get the 60' time down this Sat.
