I'm a new member and wanted to hi to all you Comet/Maverick enthusiasts. I have 72' Comet that I have been piecing together over the last 10 years. This is my 2nd Comet that I have owned. It sat for 4 years while I was overseas during Army deployments and over the last couple years I've rebuilt it. I recently put in a 302 H.O. motor from 93' f-150 and now I need a transmission. I was wondering what would be a good part car? I still need a 9" rear, disc brakes, and bucket seats in addition to the transmission. Can I steal all these parts from a 90's mustang?

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
9" you can get from a 58 Ford, a Versailles, Monarch or Granada.

Disc brakes you can get from 74-77Maverick/Comet 75-80 Granada/Monarch.

Transmission depends on what you want, 90s mustangs are going to have AODs, If you want a C4 you need to get it from an earlier car.

Perfect parts car would be a 75-80 Granada/Monarch that has a 9", discs and a C4. All these would be bolt in, direct fit.

Welcome. If you want to make the drive out to Phoenix I'll sell you a complete AOD transmission and conversion parts. 5.0 Mustang AODs fit with a custom crossmember, the correct flexplate, and a kickdown cable. there are alot of articles on here you can find with the search bar. If you are going to upgrade to a 3.89-4.11 gear then I'd go with an AOD trans also for street driving. If you stay around 3.5 gear or less then the C4 would fine.

I wasn't sure how hard it would be to convert it to a manual but I am seriously thinking about it. I'm getting married this weekend and the money is going to tight for the next couple months after the wedding. Is there a big difference in performance between the AOD and a T-5?

:hmmm::hmmm: I got married 7 years ago and money been tight ever since. But she sure seems to find alot clothes.

Well performance wise between the AOD and T5 just depends on your driving style, or drag race preference. A manual can be better for road racing, or more fun to drive around town if you like shifting. The AOD is more consistent for drag raceway. And if you drive in rush hour you migh not want to shift all the time. It's really a personal preference and how do you want to drive the car. Im not into drag racing much anymore and want a more fun driving experience on the weekends so Im switching from AOD to a T5 when I can.
