I did a search and found that 71Gold did it with 95 and 96 parts.

    What all years work?

Some do, some don't. I bought the rear I had in my Ranger (narrowed it) from a 94 Explorer. It had 3.73's and trac loc, but drum brakes (big un's too) A quick look will tell you what it's got. Pay close attention to the ID tag on the rear cover for the gear ratio and tracloc.

95-99 I believe are the years maybe up to 01. Search the web you can find the code for the door tag.. I want to say something like DZ for axle is posi 3.73. The tag on the axle will still have the gear ratio.

I don't care for the axle and rear, just the brakes. So basically if it is a late 90s explorer and has rear disk brakes, Those are the brakes?

I seem to remember that Crown Vics and Explorers have the same brakes Scoop. Maybe the bracket was a little different or something, but both would bolt right up. That would give you more choices at the scrapyard to look for....

I am kinda tossing around if I want junkyard brakes or just pay $300 for the entire all-new kit.

Not sure, depends on the yard. But then I may or may not need new calipers, pads, etc. If not now, possibly later.

Why not just go all new now and be done with it?

As Frank said in his tech write-up, I could get all the parts and trade them in for new using the junkyard parts as cores, but with it being 100 degrees and the yards full of hungry snakes, not sure if it would be worth the extra hassle.

Someone had a new in box full kit for $300 on here a couple days back. All new, all the parts, no having to search for this and that connector, etc. I can get that kit from Summit or JEGS.

Nope, those two are different from each other. The Vic setup is supposedly a bolt on for an 8" rear, the Explorer setup bolts up to a big bearing 9

Brake rotor with caliper are about $20 each at Pull-a-Part. Last time I was there they had more CV's and Explorer's you could shake a stick at

We took the brakes off an Explorer for Earl's Maverick. Maybe Frank or Earl will chime in to give details on what was done to make them fit.

pick and pull you can get the brackets for about 10$ each and calipers for 20$, total 60$ for rear disc brakes.
